Most cost effective way to improve a 4200's sound

What's the most cost effective way of improving the sound and making it sound actually more like the undercover Ferrari it sort of is?

I think I read somewhere an x-pipe is a good option with the stock exhaust?

For a 4200 maybe an X pipe.

For a 3200 remove the secondary cat (centre cat) and the silencers.

The boys heard my car last night and everyone of them loved it!

X-pipe is not enough. x-pipe plus unsilenced rears makes it nice. This is what Spartacus has and what I will have shortly. There's a thread about what's inside the back boxes for a DIY silencer delete.

Depends on if you have DIY metal working skills and can weld stainless.

Failing that about £600 will get you an unsilenced X-pipe and straight throughs. Ping BennyD as master of the dark arts.

Do you get into trouble at the MOT when removeing the secondary cat Phil.....they must have fitted it for a reason

No, passes emissions with just the precats.

The centre section is more of a silencer than it is emission control.

I have just got my 4200 back after spending a couple of weeks with Marios at Autoshield. I have to say I wasn't sure if I was going too far but the results are absolutely spot on & exactly what I was after.
It is much louder which was a 3rd of the requirement. The other 3rd was to make sure it was a nice noise. Oh my days.....it is certainly that! The last 3rd was to make sure it didn't harm the car in driveability with nasty noises, boominess or drone anywhere. Again it is spot on there as well.
My 4200 is now the car it should always have been out of the factory day one. I got the 4200 over a GS as didn't like the side boards or interior on the GS & preferred the interior & looks of the facelift 4200. The car lacked that supercar noise & experience mainly down to the muted noise.
The exhaust mods have transformed the car now & I cannot fault it. I would go as far to say if I was looking new I might have walked away to look for an alternative but if it had these mods day one I would definately had been buying! It is that night & day.
Marios has done a spot on job and the pipe work looks good to me. The design, application, sound & cost has to be recommended. I would do exactly what I have done tomorrow again in a heartbeat with no reservations.
Please be reminded this is not my daily driver & a well looked after, cared for 3rd car but always wanted it to use & drive when I could. I don't think I would go this far as a daily driver. It would be too much for me. However as a weekend or 3rd car it is an awesome thing now.
I have done a secondary CAT delete with nice straight through section & twin round pipes(no squashed pipe!) each side over the steering rack bar and straight through rears with rear silencer delete as well! Manifold/headers are standard US spec with primary CATS untouched & centre section untouched. No change to Lambda sensors or positioning & no CEL...yet;)
All been done with dry fit joints/ flanges so I have the option of putting either one of the rear silencers or secondary CATS back on if it was too much. It isn't and is spot on.

Happy for anyone to pop by North Mymms, Hertfordshire way if they ever want to hear. Not the cheapest but not expensive in my opinion & well worth it without doubt. There are cheaper ways & more expensive ways but both don't give the same results in my opinion.

Really really really pleased. I will post some pics of the pipes Marios sent me before they went on a bit later.

Spoke with a local exhaust manufacturer and they have quoted £100 to remove the centre section - will be popping over to see them very soon....

To really achieve the sound I have you need silencer delete too. All the lads saw mine and commented how great it sounds. A very deep Detroit V8 soundtrack.

The video's don't capture just how Epic it sounds.

Nice sound Phil ;). Good work. The 3200 & 4200 have a very different sound...I love them both. Obviously love mine more ;)

Why would you want an Italian thoroughbred V8 to sound like an American pig-iron growler? IMO, Maseratis, indeed all Italian sports cars, should sound more highly strung and finely tuned.

How much did you pay then?

To be honest I agree with the above it has to sound as close to a Ferrari as it should, needs to sound more supercar less growl V8
