I enquired at booking in at Emblem as my parents live near there...for a few smallish jobs. They said no problem sir, we can fit you in July 25th!

Is it normal to have to book so far ahead?

McGrath are booking for October 2017 for major work .....

They must be doing something right then, what a great position to be in for a business to have an order book that well filled

I would also consider a 3200, just love those tail lights, but would have to be manual. Is the end float issue on manuals a common occurrence?

I wouldn't buy a manual 3200 without having a very thorough inspection, including the end float. But as its a known issue, you're not going into it blind. I was chatting to Richard Grace (who has a lovely French Blue one for sale by the way) and he said he'll now only take them after he's had them inspected by Marios at Autoshield. They are great cars and good fun, but you need to buy the best and do not be tempted to take a punt on a seemingly cheap private deal (well, not without an inspection). Chat to Richard and then wait for him to find the car you want. You'll pay a little more, but potentially save a whole heap more.

Your right Ewan. If the french blue had been around when I was in the market for one, thats the one would have had.

Can anyone recommend a good place to get an inspection done around Cambridge area, as I am particularly interested in a car in that area. Also as a matter of interest, how can they tell how much the clutch is worn without stripping it down?

The System Diagnostic 3 or SD3 that is used to service Ferrari and Maserati can read the clutch system and all the gubbings such as KIS and PIS point setting.

Thats why you need it done at a specialist.

BTW the read out is just a proxy so check for a recent replace as age xan also see clutch fingers fatigue.

Diagnostics will check the clutch wear as a percentage and the degradation.

Emblem are near you, they will collect and inspect and if you have it, it's local to pick up too.

You could try Voicey on here he's a mobile tech with all the gear but really it needs to be up on a ramp. Alfaworkshop are in Royston very close but their knowledge is not of Maseratis.

Thanks for the reply`s, so Emblem would pick the car up from Cambridge and bring it down to their premises for an inspection ? Regarding clutch wear, is this something that is worse on the cambio corsa models compared to a car with manual transmission? (sorry for all the questions, have a lot to learn still)

Emblem would yes.

The CC clutch is the very best and very worst thing about the 4200. It works brilliant especially with upgraded TCU software and a PIS point of 4.5. The physical plate will last circa 50k miles but they do have a tendancy for the clutch cover spring to collapse without warning. I would say if you budget to replace the clutch every 25k miles/3 years you will be in the ball park. Anything more is a bonus.

From experiance, driving in auto, reversing up inclines and wheel spinning are the things that will kill it prematurely.

The clutch will last as long as you want it to.

My last two 4200 maintained 1%wear per 1000 miles but I drove them fast but sympathetically re clutch.

My current GS seems to not to use any clutch as the last time it was checked at Emblem it had the same as the year previous after 3k.

I did read that gear change to gear change the two versions are very close but CC users use the paddles more frequently.
