I am in Surrey as well. Have an MC Shift as well. You have made the right choice! Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Stuart

I've seen your post and once I've done my test drives and know for sure whether it's an MC Shift I definitely want, I may be in touch. Your car looks lovely and sounds like it's had a lot of stuff sorted out. South Lincs is a long way from me though..

The right car could be in Scotland:D

Picture this , a weekend away with a train journey up , nice hotel booked , you buy the car then you've got all those Lincolnshire A roads to enjoy driving it back, visit to Stamford on the way , maybe Rockingham if it coincides with a track day.

I bought a car from a forum member and a few electrical niggles aside it's been great .

Richard Grace should be on your list as well, his cars are top drawer

This is the right time of year to be buying , wait until the spring and any chance of a discount will evaporate

Thanks Darren - I've been thinking a bit about how far I ought to be willing to travel for the right car, and it maybe that I need to extend the 100 mile radius that I've been using on Autotrader and Piston Heads.

Interestingly, Richard Grace was highly recommended to me by a friend who used to own a Maserati and lived in Manchester, and I know he currently is advertising a lovely looking 2009 car.

So many choices and decisions.....

One question I do have is how often you'd expect to have to replace the clutch in an MC Shift. I know this depends on how hard the car is driven, but what would be average for a car that is mainly driven gently, with the occasional blast...

Great cars, I have the other GTS gearbox but each to their own. I hope you find what you want but you should be prepared to travel. There are only about 2200 GranTurismos in the UK and of these about 400 are the model you want so travelling to Lincs or anywhere really should be on your list.

Welcome, just buy the mc shift :) drive and look better

You cannot have a mileage limit of travelling when buying specialist cars

Mine was quite local, only 160 miles away

I bought a Alfa Romeo GT blackline last week, I live in Essex and travelled to Scotland, 10 hour drive home

Right then. Today I've driven two different MC Shift cars and another automatic, and had an incredibly useful conversation with Nareman from Nuvola.

Based on this, I think the key spec I'm looking for is:

Granturismo S MC Shift
2010 or newer
Mileage below 40k
Neptune 20" alloys
Yellow or red calipers
Full leather interior (not red)
Comfort seats
BOSE surround sound
Interior Carbon pack
Exterior Carbon Aerodynamic pack
Front and Rear Park Distance Control
iPod and Bluetooth

Am I missing anything important from the above list?

In terms of colour, I would like either blue, gray or black, which I think means:

Blu Oceano
Blu Mediterraneo (possibly my favourite)
Grigio Alfieri
Grigio Touring
Grigio Granito
Grigio Nuvolari
Nero Carbonio

I am sure that someone will come up. Neptunes are the standard wheels and most have comfort and front sensors so that's easy and you can also add carbon or change the colour of calipers if it helps? The iPod and Bluetooth on the GranTurismo are weak so don't get hung up on them.

What about skyhook or not?

PS mine is Blu Oceono but Blu Nettuno is similar so worth a thought.

If a car came available with Skyhook then I'd be fine with it (might even prefer it) but at the moment I don't think I know enough about how it works to know for definite whether I want it or not.

Would you recommend Skyhook?

Is it right that Blue ones are much rarer?

I like skyhook as it suits the auto well - soft suspension in auto and sports suspension in manual for choice. Not sure about non skyhook suspension, others will answer.

Colour is personal and there are not many of any of them other than black.

The problem with not having the carbon pack is that adding them is prohibitively expensive!

Sports handling pack? Though those are rare.

Having done quite a bit of thinking about what's most important to me, I've decided to buy a 2012 Granturismo S Automatic with Sports Pack.

Will hopefully have picked up the car by the weekend, and will post some pictures.

Thanks for all the advice so far, it's been incredibly helpful...

Where did that come from!? I'm looking for a GT 4.7s MCS in blue, but have realised it's easier to buy rocking horse poo. Virtually every GT on auto trader, pistonheads, etc., is black or grey. What was it about GT buyers of 5 years ago that stopped them using a colour pallet?
