Newcomer in Surrey - looking for a Granturismo S

Where did that come from!? I'm looking for a GT 4.7s MCS in blue, but have realised it's easier to buy rocking horse poo. Virtually every GT on auto trader, pistonheads, etc., is black or grey. What was it about GT buyers of 5 years ago that stopped them using a colour pallet?

Ewan - it's not an MC Shift. It's a 2012 GT S Auto with the Sports pack. I wanted an MC Shift, but agree with you that they are largely all black, grey, or dark blue and I decided I wanted the colour more than I wanted the pure manual gearbox...

I know I'm biased, and I still want an MC shift, but the auto is a thing of wonder. I actually drive mine mostly in normal auto mode because it just suits the car so well. When you hir sport, you really do know the difference and need to be in the mood as it were.

Nice colour but I think you might regret the box choice.

I might - and that's probably my only real concern about the purchase.

However, my logic is that I'm not sure I'm a good enough driver to really notice the difference between the manual and the auto, and to get the most out of the pure manual. With this car, I still get the MC Auto Shift software and I'm hoping if I press the Sport button will still get similar performance, and more importantly, the sound of an MC Shift. If it doesn't sound the same, then I will look into fitting either an X/H pipe...

Does that sound daft?

I now feel like less of an oppressed minority! Enjoy the car - mine's blue too.

That's the impression given on here but the Auto is more popular in the UK. Stick to championing the Auto box, some of us are listening. I've now driven maybe 40-50 Grantursimos and I still believe the MC Autoshift is the best all rounder.

Cheers Dicky. I must get round to trying a GT Sport auto at some stage. This forum does get to me as it is often very narrow minded. For many my manual 4200 was useless as it was not a CC and my GTS Auto is the same as it has the wrong gearbox. Time and time again opinions are offered to 'new starters' which are so one dimensional that the broad range of Maseratis' that have been built over the last two decades are mis-represented.

Completely agree. It's a shame that loud and narrowminded tend to dominate diversity of interest and debate on occasions. Reminiscent of the political landscape at the moment possibly............?

You will hate that box and be desperate to get rid of the car within 3 months.

At which point I will take it off your hands at a bargain price!!
Seriously, I am sure you will enjoy every second of the car. Sometimes the comments on here about tyres, brake pads, gearboxes etc make me think every other Maserati owner is Lewis Hamilton's twin brother.
I couldn't tell the difference in real world driving between yellow pads or red pads and other than a quick squirt to get past a slower car on the open road I am bumbling along at the speed limit enjoying the Maserati experience. I am probably in the minority but if I get a GT or QP I am looking for the auto box.
Each to their own but don't let others influence your feelings.

I've never driven a GranTurismo so have no opinion of either gearbox. If the 8-speed ZF in my Ghibli is anything to go by, I wouldn't see the need for anything else for the vast majority of driving I do and would be happy to avoid a new clutch bill also!

Perhaps a tad harsh Bob.

I think the majority agree that the CC box is better than the manual on the 4200 (I did). But driving a Maserati is not about going with what the 'masses' say you should drive, otherwise we'd all be in Porsche's.
Some people like to be a bit different.

With regards to the GT, I'm guessing a lot of the people who rate the MCS over the auto's are the ones who have the budget in that price range (30-50k).

However, I imagine those who have a budget in the 45+ range may say the Sport MC is the one to get.

Horses for courses.

Until you try them all, you never know what you like and what you don't. Those who buy cars purely based upon what someone they've never even met has said on a website are quite frankly idiots.
If there are any such people on here, I have $100,000,000 of 'lost' Nigerian oil money which I need depositing in a UK bank account.
If someone would just give me their bank details that would be very much appreciated.

Thanks everyone - I've really appreciated all of the input and opinions, and wouldn't the world be a bloody dull place if we all thought and felt the same.

Needamaser - thank you for being so kind to offer!

Rwc13 - that is a **** of a list of past Maserati's... Out of all of them which was / is your favourite?
