Ouch. Think my clutch has just gone.

The reason they changed from U.K. To US spec cats was due to cat break up getting ingested by the engine.

Putting two cats so close together was not a good idea and only the early 2004 GS's have this 4200 configuration.

My MY04 2003 4200 has the Euro spec header/manifold arrangement. My 2007 4200 has the US spec header/manifold arrangement.

Many of the GS that were sold for the UK market seem to have the US/Canadian type manifolds - that is they have shorter primaries with a pre-cat before the pipes dip under the steering rack. There are many different parts in this are including the hose from the dry sump tank to the oil pump, heat shields etc. The outlets of these manifolds are in an entirely different position/orientation to cars (4300's) that have the more usual EU 4:! manifolds, so the Larini sport cat section is also different.

Having had this all off and on my car twice as I damaged the aforementioned oil pipe, I am surprised you thing a system is twisted. There is simply so many places it needs to be adjusted to get the Larini system to sit correctly under the car I would say its probably the pipes immediately after the manifold are not properly aligned.

No I didn't think it was twisted it was another opinion that was thrown my way from Larini to be fair to them they offered that I send it to them for inspection to confirm if it did have accident damage or not. They did say the x pipe should fit any 4.2 Coupe/GS... which is probably what made the situation a little frustrating... it would either not marry up with the cats or if I turned it over it reached both ends fine but was stuck hard against the floor pan

Anyway I have a custom x pipe and 100 cell race cats (primaries deleted) on there now and it's loud enough for the moment. Throttle response is epic too.

Just been on the phone to Matthew.

They've worked out what the issue with my car is. A failed F1 pump!
So a new one is going on Monday/Tuesday next week.

The only down side is they still haven't got their diag computer back from Maserati!!!!

They are expecting it any minute though, so I should have my baby home for Christmas.

That could have been a lot worse Mark, fingers crossed the diagnostics don't show up anything else

Indeed it could. However, the bright sparks on here diagnosed a F1 pump as a possible failure.
I'll get her back before Christmas, and then she'll get washed and go straight in the garage under her newish cover for the rest of winter.

Let her dry out before she goes in the garage if possible or there will be lots of damp trapped there for a long time.

We did :)

Great news, chap!

Great news Mark. Being able to use the car over the Christmas period is a big plus. Mines locked up for winter but depending on salty roads will be making an appearance over the Christmas for family visits. Good news it was just the F1 pump too.

That's shocking really, for an Indy to take nearly a month to work out an f1 pump is faulty.

It took me 5 mins in a car park! With no SD2/3!

Had a call from Giallo first thing, they've replaced the F1 pump, and relay, however, as Maserati finished for Christmas last Friday, they still haven't got their diagnostics back!
The same thing is happening. 1st, 2nd, 3rd are fine, but it throws it's toys out of the pram when they try 4th.
Chesney thought it smelled of 'clutch' when he was going through the gears, although that could be where the parameters are all out of sync.
They're going to try an Alfa system on it a bit later to try and re-set the gears as mine is an early 4200 it uses the same set up as a Selespeed apparently.

The saga goes on.......

Oh dear still no happy news, it does seem to be taking an extremely long time to diagnose and resolve I am pretty sure other indies would have been much faster than this.

Hopefully they will get it sorted and at worse if the clutch needs to be replaced it will always help in the future. Mine has been getting better and better as each part of the CC system was changed, Actuator, Clutch and finally Pump & Relay. It now drives totally differently and although at the time is was financially painful I am happy to have get there eventually.

A little unfair based on the fact that they don't have any diagnostics and they need them for clutch/gear issues.

I tend to agree with both of you.

However, it's no Giallo's fault that their computer (which they pay Maserati for) failed. Nor is it there fault that Maserati have not done what they are supposed to.

I guess fortunately it's not a time of the year where I'd be driving my car a lot anyway. Although I'd prefer to have her back in the garage.

It is what it is. At the end of the day if it costs me a new clutch, it costs a new clutch. Hopefully it won't though.

If it is gear related it sounds more like an actuator issue but could as they say be clutch too.

They won't have any luck with the Alfa diagnostics unless they can crack the code and change the ECU address on the CAN.

However, I may be driving past that way tomorrow afternoon with my SD3 - I would be happy to stop by and let them use it on your car.

If you could let me know if you are, and I'll give Matthew a shout. Cheers.

Voicey I fear if you turn up at Giallos with your SD3 you may be there some time :)

I am sure you will be welcomed with open arms by Mathew what a torrid time he must be having and no fault of his own.
