Had some more paint work done here recently

Dented wing (fair sized dent/scrape)
Dented door (dented about 40cmx40cm)
Pull both out and fill
Respray/blend in (metallic black/blue)

£280, very good job

On my Bmw m3

Have you been lending your car to your friends again??!

That does sound like the right kind of money , the only think worrying me on the 4200 is there are 2 rusty areas either side of the back window about 1/2 way down that look like they started under the trim so to do them properly the window will have to come out, I've just seen how much a replacement is if they break it

I'd seriously advise caution on how much you might need to spend to put the paintwork right on this car. You need to think about the value of the car after the respray and weigh it up with if you intend to keep it for a long time. These coupes generally need a complete repaint if they need painting anywhere - it's very hard to find an edge to lose the new paint, coupled with new paint showing up any old paint on the car. You may be better off putting that money towards a better example.

Beau is the man to get the seal sorted, so you may well be in luck in avoiding that issue.

That *also* means if they were to break it, you'd be in the useful position of being able to use one from a scrapper.

Are you trying to say I've been sold a dog :D

I did take it to a body shop , the guy was straight with me , his professional eye spotted a lot of dents I'd never even noticed

Bottom line is the panels that need spraying make it most of the car so I doubt it's going to happen even though the quote wasn't as much as I thought for a full respray

What's a 2002 96,000 mile 4200 going to be worth painted probably not much more than it is now

Hard to say but my first 4200 (2003 MY revised) was sold last year by a dealer for £11,000. It had a new clutch but had not been serviced for four years as it had only done another 4k miles since i sold it to a dealer. Paint was still mint btw.

Any guesses

Are you asking people to guess what the paint job will cost, or what you paid for it? Personally I'd rather that second figure was kept off the public forum, but I guess it's up to you.

My cars being totally resprayed at the moment , this includes total strip down and glass removed , I won't say how much but it was less than £5k ! The prep work pictures the body shop sent me scare the life out of you but since than got sent a pic of the shell after painting and looks very shinny , don't forget a good paint job is all in the prep . I suppose the question is , is it worth doing , well to me yes , my cars a early 2002 one of the first so i would like to think in a few years it will become a rare beast ,plus I have no intention of selling her . I think prices are on the rise if you look at auto trader but what there actually sell for may differ !

That sounds like a very good deal given what I've been discussing about the paint on the GT!

I've changed it to what I meant to say now

I saw a car he'd just painted and it looked very good

Quote was back window out , he thought he could get away with leaving the windscreen in because the seal looked quite brittle and just painting to the edge , bumpers off, lights and all trim off, remove both side windows and replace because it looks like somebody's wife wasn't very happy with whoever was inside it

Paint, lacquer, flat & polish and rebuild

£2500 or £2750 if I wanted the wheels doing , colour change inc everything you can see when opening doors & boot another £700

Not too bad , he couldn't fit it in for another month at the earliest so I've got plenty of time to mull it over, it's whether the additional cost would add value, what I don't want is attractively finished in 4 shades of silver

I think things are moving up for the 4200 since the gransport started heading towards 30k so 11k would be cheap today

That also seems very reasonable. Bloody **** that palladio grigio paint is clearly expensive!

The paint is ! My body shop guy said the cost would depend on how much the paint was as he got it from the stealers .by the way the same body shop painted the Ferrari trailer homes , and had to use the official Red and had to be bought from Ferrari it self he said you wouldn't believe the cost eye watering !!!

Given what I am paying to get some of the paint down the other side sorted out, I will be very interested to see what the cost is!
