Paintwork cost

Sounds like a good price, but I'm always wary of good prices for things like this. Another member had his GS fully resprayed in its original colour recently and that was about £6k. About right to my mind for this sort of job. One thing you can guarantee - whatever you spend will not be recouped. It might make the car mor saleable, but there is a very limited market for early 4200s with almost 100k miles. If the car is a keeper then spend what you want to get the car as you want it and pay no heed to the resale value of the car.

I agree a car with nearly 100k miles on it may not justify the cost of a respray , but it all depends on what you intend to do with it if it's a long term keeper than why not if you like your cars mint but alas with that milage I don't think you would recoup the out lay if you intend to sell in a year or two . Sadly that's just the stigma with higher milage cars . It could be worse you could paint it yellow than wouldn't be able to give it away

i know it's probably not going to be cost effective so I'll probably end up living with it as is , I'll nip down to halfords for some red oxide and a silver chip stick tomorrow

My Maserati respray was £1500

My Spider respray was a grand but I striped and reassembled it and paid cash.

If you know someone, wait till they are quiet you will be surprised what you can get.

Oh and the Spider respray is mint and I am very, very picky and can spot a dodgy blend or a poor fitting panel gap from 500 paces.

if I could get it tarted up for £1000 I'd go for that but it doesn't justify £2500 spending on it.

in any case I still haven't ruled a QP out so I'm not sure how long I'll be keeping it

It was there standard price, while the paint is not perfect (I am fussy remember) compared to the paint work I have seen other people at shows have done to other Alfa/Maserati it is bloody good in comparison

There is someone else I use now for paintwork, I used them for my Bmw m3, I feel they are better than who did my Maserati and are also cheaper

They quoted £1000 for Alfa Brera respray (same colour)

There in Southend, I can give you there number if you want? I think for £1000 they could make it a lot better, but then for the extra £500 it would probably be worth having a full respray

Ok, I have just been in to see Phil, I chatted to him about the demand the rest of you guys have for paint and he is willing to do a cash deal.

He will paint a 3200/4200 for £2k cash or £1.5k if you do some of the prep work, just removing panels and leaving them loose on the car.

Phil is kean to get to know all the Maserati paints and their foibles, so he's prepared to go the extra mile.

He will also do front end resprays, bumpers and wheels at a fixed price to the forum

Phil is a great guy and his work is excellent and located at the bottom of the A3. The lacquer he uses is £400 a gallon, so its a top notch finish.

Guinee pig require Wack so take advantage, PM me for details.

Nice! Turns out he's the same guy that painted my 116 back in the day for Chris Snowdon.

His work is good :)
