Just browsing the other Maserati forum and noticed a thread regarding front subframe corrosion.
The pictures look really bad, not just surface corrosion, but holes! Not just the first of the outgoing series QP's either but 06 models, reminds me of the Lancia Beta' of the 70's.
Never heard of the problem on here, if I had a QP I would having a look....

Checked mine already, apart from a few scabs it good, however i will be looking to treat any areas front and rear over the winter months to ensure it goes no further.

Now this can of tinworms has been opened, this has been known for sometime , but not spoken about guys...am afraid its a big downer for QP owners of even recent years....do Maserati want to know????!!!!!

A truly shameful situation to be left in as a "premium" brand maker.......

Depends when it was put in and how often, plus usage in winter and exposure to salt......seriously Andy, I'd get it checked out

OMG it's the 70's all over again. My sisters TR7 was it's own living organism, everyday the rust subdivided and grew and the whole thing rotted away in about 3 months once it started. Never ever seen anything like it, it was utterly everywhere.

Copied over photo's of the QP in question, with another QP owner saying his younger 06 is worse.

In comparison here is a shot of my underside 4200, it's like new even though 11 years old. Okay it's not been used in salty weather, and the QP in question might have. The QP on surrounding areas is showing rust discolouration which is worrying.
Are QP's made in the same factory as the 4200/GS at the time, and finished off to the same standard?

In those shots it does not seem to have any form of underseal on at all and if so that is ridiculous that it was never picked up by a dealer. I would be dropping a line to Maserati with photographs and say the next step is to release those to the motoring press..!!

If the motoring press got wind, it would kill sales and also do no favours to our resale values.

Whose to say they don't know about it...Maserati won't give two tosses about 3 plus year old cars.......on a 9 yr old QP, that amount of damage could be terminal.......

A simple threat might just be enough, as they are launching new stuff, it would be the right time to apply pressure..!!

Be interesting to know if this was a UK car or import. Years ago some makes destined for hot/dry climates would have less rust protection and as such would be vulnerable in the UK.

Also where has it lived...costal cars get hit by far more salt in the air than those further inshore.
