Will check Mine, just had an underseal touch up by the jacking points.. Tyre fitters are not the most careful..

The subframe are Massive on these cars, guess it only takes a stone chip , gravel to remove a bit of underseal, & the weather can soon get a hold.
In the Handbook is does say Annual checks of underseal, so reckon they have covered themselves..

Not entirely they have much in the way of underseal anyways, whats wrong with a £20 galvanising of those exposed subframe sections either...it was a £70K supercar after all!

The car in those pics hasn't been anywhere a proper Maserati Dealership for a very long time or it has been parked in a field for a couple of years.

Is that area between the rear wheels (more or less)? I'll take a look at mine tomorrow as its an 05 car.

Could the car be accident repaired or been grounded in that area?

Just browsing the other Maserati forum and noticed a thread regarding front subframe corrosion.
The pictures look really bad, not just surface corrosion, but holes! Not just the first of the outgoing series QP's either but 06 models, reminds me of the Lancia Beta' of the 70's.
Never heard of the problem on here, if I had a QP I would having a look....

OK tracked the thread, its from Jan 2013.

List of parts including outer/inner door handles? Whats the story with this car needing so many parts replacing?

Mine had a similar problem when I bought it, but I think originally caused by damage from grounding/similar. Nothing like it was apparent elsewhere on the car:

It's not quite like that now.... :)

Here's my subframe. Only changes were on the surface at the outer corners, other areas as new. Put my fingers inside and it seems the area's where the other cars had problems are where its a U-section. Found bits of gravel in mine. I imagine this area would quickly fill with salt/snow in bad conditions.QPsubframe04.jpgQPsubframe03.jpgQPsubframe02.jpgQPsubframe01.jpg

That looks like jacking damage to me. Being hollow it looks to have been distorted upwards when the section collapsed. That breaks the paint and when submerged in road cr4p and salt, over time, rusts through.

The sub frame should still survive.......its not properly protected, made with poor metal and then easily and unknowingly damaged.,......a sorta triple whammy of negatives.....
