I shall stop boring everyone. From the Britannica not slopipaedia:

http://www.britannica.com/event/Reconquista

Seems to have started around 718AD and finished 1492AD. A series of battles between the Christians and Moors for the control of Spain. The last of the moors being expelled from Granada.

A literary question:

Also the title of a famous literary work, who were Mrs Page and Mrs Ford?

Ok similar theme

Who, What, Where links vermin, a semi precious blue stone, a gallop and a strangulation?

No idea really on this one zag. Not too many semi precious blue stones. The most well known one in this neck of the woods would be Blue John which would make the place Castleton or Derbyshire. There is a loose link to rats in the area as well but i cant think of anything to do with a gallop or strangulation.

If any of the above is on the right track it may help others.

Sorry just re-read question and missed out a word "or" - It is one of the Who, What, Where not all 3 it was a bit mis-leading.

We are staying on the culture theme but not theatre if that helps

Hamlin and vermin would possibly be the pied piper but i dont know what the other connections would be from your clues.

OK so you have the first part, now just the others to get the link. although you could have a stab at the answer with what you have

The semi precious stone could be rhine stone which would tie up with Germany along with Hamlin in the fabel. Other than that i assume you mean the author but i have no idea who that was.

Afraid not.

The answer I was looking for was Robert Browning as all clues relate to poems written by him - Painful memories as he was my O Level english literature poet. Our teacher was convinced St Praxed would be the O level questions so we dismantled it to death (literally) needless to say it wasn't.

Vermin "To see the townsfolk suffer so From vermin, was a pity." obviously from the Pied Piper Of Hamlin
semi precious blue stone "Some lump, ah God, of lapis lazuli,. Big as a Jew's head cut off at the nape" from the Bishop Orders his Tomb at St Praxed
a gallop "I galloped, Dirck galloped, we galloped all three" from How they Brought the Good News from Ghent to Aix - a lovely poem that like the horses gallops along.
a strangulation "In one long yellow string I wound Three times her little throat around, And strangled her. No pain felt she" from Porphyrias Lover

Previously less culture than I expected here, somebody else best have a go at a more appropriate level

Here's one from a totally different kind of culture.

From the electronic dance music scene, who is Richard James better known as?
