Well The Quiz Inquisitor is always right and I believe Radio 4 would not tell porkies so it stays as RBS!
Its Zag's go
but here is a wordy question
5 letters ends in a vowel
the first 2 letters are immediately repeated
3 vowels two of which are the same
Well known word
Big clue to follow if necessary

I look after up to 50 or so accounts at Coutts as many of our clients bank at the Media Banking branch @ 440 Strand and they are essentially the same as any bank - they do cash back and they will bounce a cheque if there are insufficient funds although it will soon be a moot point as cheques start to disappear

440 Strand has been the address on all Coutts cheques irrespective of the branch you actually banked with for at least ten years (Cavendish Square used to be my branch). 440 Strand is now the only actual branch, they have closed all their other locations in London and many of the other locations are what they refer to as offices rather than branches where you cannot do actual banking. Not too big a problem as they are owned by Natwest so all day to day banking can be done in any Natwest branch.

In the old days the tellers were expected to know all the customers of the individual branch by name so it was a very personal service and you built up a good rapport with the people in your branch who often stayed the same for many years.

Indeed, and many people at 440 have departed now too, it's a shadow of it's former self but we still have an excellent relationship with our main point person, but even he, in a senior position, hot desks with other members of staff now

Must be a drag having to go into Nat West. Not that I often need to physically go to a bank these days.

When I sold shoes on Cambridge market in the 80s a woman paid me with a Coutts cheque , I took it because she had a guarantee card with it but took it straight round the bank , I gave it to the teller with a look of suspicion , he said you'll be fine, there's no chance of this bouncing , you need 100k to open an account :D

When I left school I was offered a job at Coutts (after 3 interviews and 2 aptitude tests) but turned them down as I didn't really want to work in a bank.
They wrote back and asked why! lol! Apparently not many people turn down a job offer from them. Well they didn't back then.

At the time 1990 or 1991 you needed to be earning 50k a year or have 100k in cash or 500k in non mortgaged assets to open an account.
Not sure what it is now.

The non-bouncing cheque was a myth (I actually asked in my interview) they work the same as every other bank.
If you write cheque without the funds to cover it. It bounces!

I had to this afternoon. A client paid by cheque FFS! Who pays by cheque these days? Especially when I put the account details on the invoice!
Think it costs me £12.50 to pay it in as well!
And it wasn't a particularly large amount either!

Rant over!

No, the first 2 letters are immediately repeated in my word. Good ttempt though
So here is a clue
The word can have at least 2 meanings
A slang one meaning something like 'I don't think so' or 'I am not doing that'
And a real meaning....................

This had me thinking all day, I was convinced it was vowel-consonant-vowel-consonant-vowel...till I reversed the vowel-consonant to consonant vowel...

COCOA!
