I do apologise, it's been crazy busy here and I've not logged on for a few days.

You are of course correct, on both counts in fact, so over to you sir.

Now signing off again - way, way too busy - I hope you're all good

The same bank was also the first to provide an account for children

All good answers (especially the Nigerian one - made me smile!) and we have a winner

According to Radio 4 the bank in question is RBS who are exhibiting their history and the first overdraft was around 1800 to a Scottish business man with cash flow problems. Heard that before somewhere!
Over to Zag I believe

Coutts?

C

When I sold shoes on Cambridge market in the 80s a woman paid me with a Coutts cheque , I took it because she had a guarantee card with it but took it straight round the bank , I gave it to the teller with a look of suspicion , he said you'll be fine, there's no chance of this bouncing , you need 100k to open an account :D

I heard they never bounce a cheque anyway.

Might be an urban myth, though
C

To say they never bounce a cheque would be inaccurate but a cheque drawn on a Coutts account would be extremely unlikely to bounce. If your current account was low and a cheque came in your private banker would call you to forewarn you so you could transfer money from another account and they would almost certainly honour the cheque knowing money was on the way from a savings account.

Does depend on who is your private banker, my previous one was a bit of a **** but my new one is considerably nicer to deal with and extremely helpful.

I look after up to 50 or so accounts at Coutts as many of our clients bank at the Media Banking branch @ 440 Strand and they are essentially the same as any bank - they do cash back and they will bounce a cheque if there are insufficient funds although it will soon be a moot point as cheques start to disappear
