Amundsen used a few Ships; Gjöa, Oslo and Fram. IIRC, it was Fram he used for the Antartic expedition. He eventually disappeared whilst a passenger on the Airship Italia during a rescue mission.

Lead in petrol rings a bell with me. I didn't know about the freon gas.
