Range Rover advice

My problem with Discos, is I really hate the look of estate cars that looks like someone designed a saloon and then crudely bolted on a bit at the back. And all Discos seem to be the SUV equivalent of that.

Whereas most Range Rovers look like someone designed the whole thing on purpose.

Have to disagree with that one as both lines look the same to me (and I loved my Disco3 then 4). Mind I don't so saloons so we are all different.

Our 11 plate E350D Merc ML will be going in the next month or two, it's on 98,500 miles and we'll probably only get 8k from WBAC.

It's had one big bill (£600) in the 5 years we've had it and it's never let us down. Has all the toys you need and is a nice place to be.
Worth taking a look at them if I were you.

This one is literally exactly the same as ours.

I know horses are jumpy but how slow do you need to go!? Reverse is always the lowest gear anyway. The reason you often see people being pulled out by a car in reverse is that it’s lower than first.

No idea - I don't have a horse... just horse power

Our farmers have the same Ewan and it has been far more reliable than its brand-new replacement... also not all the new ones have a low ratio gearbox for towing in reverse?
Low ratio transfer box lowers the complete gearbox output speeds.
Why you would need an even lower reverse gear, when towing, I don't know.
It is true that LR has been dropping the low ratio transfer box on select models. The freelander/disco sport/evoke/valor etc haven't been a proper 4x4 for years, making do with a low first gear instead. Even some Range Rover Sports don't have a transfer gearbox anymore so wouldn't be surprised if some of the discovery models don't either.
My little Pinin is more of a proper 4x4 with its super select 4x4 transmission with proper low box transfer gearbox!

His replacement is a RR Sport, prior to that they also has a new Discovery... but they keep their original 'Boxy' discovery for towing the horse box as that has the box which makes towing and reversing up grass fields with a horse box far easier.

Being a Gentleman Farmer I just nod, and worry about getting my designer wellies too dirty!

That makes a bit more sense. You can now pull the car genius card, ask them if they’ve over-ridden the trailer brakes. You’d be amazed the amount of times I see people burning their clutches out trying to reverse a trailer up a hill at race meets, you’d think car people would know better.

Given what he has in the yard today I think he could tow the moon.

The 3.0l TDI snaps crank shafts . Run away .
Funny you should say that, we have a customer in who bought one from Sytners. Snapped it’s crank on the motorway. They felt sorry for her and said she could pick another car. She took a Ghibli D…that has now just had a power steering failure. New rack, pump, cooler and lines required.

My RR advise is to lease one and don’t buy it with your own money. Loverly things just so unreliable.

Le Chameau - Hunters wear out far too fast, but I do like their welly socks
+1. I've just realised that my Chameau's are beginning to crack but they are 20 years old. I'm sure that's longer than the expected life of a Renault Clio.
