Stick welded so it ain't going to be pretty but will cost me nothing more than the cutting disks, stainless rods and the petrol for the welder! Incidentally I cut it apart the same way as Maverick, grinding the seam on the front side.

I've asked before and will ask again, who not just go straight through custom pipes? Leaving the standard boxes will again change the acoustics (for the worse).

A fair point Phil but keeping the old box means the inlet and tail pipes and brackets all fit so it is an easy swap on the car. I fully intend to make a full set of boxes up at some point with valves but when I do I will make up a jig to give me the parameters for them. The other point is the pipework inside the box doesn't have to be gas tight just the lid of the box. An aside is if plod looks underneath it 'looks kosher' :)

Acoustically they won't sound as good, they will echo and resonate. When they were on John's they sounded very much like I describe.

We shall see, I'm hoping to sort them for Brunty where it will get plenty of reviews no doubt :)

The only resonance on mine is down around 2k revs. I hear Larinis have a similar issu further up the rev range. I'm not aware of any echo at all.

My unvalved larinis its around 2k to 3k.
Its not a resonance as such (but technically I guess it is), it's more an extremely low frequency deep bass sound, that 'escapes' when you have a window open a bit! I nearly always therefore have my window open a bit at non motorway speeds, and when at motorway speeds its not an issue anyway.
It would be nice if you could buy those smoked plastic side window wind deflectors for the Maserati, but haven't seen any.

Box 1 is completed and gas tight, not bad for stick welding, it always looks a bit snotty...

Ha, yes I agree, this side is up in the car anyway so nobody sees it on the car!

I'll polish the tailpipes before they go on anyway.

About 6 hours to complete, a lot of help from Mavericks excellent photos so I knew what to expect. I need to buy some new stainless welding rods before I can do the other one on Friday (meant to be writing reports shhhh..) :D

Amended my drawing as I added a bracket internally welded to the floor of the box to tie the end of the internals tight and prevent rattles.

Ivr ordered larini sports cats and an x pipe for my mcv. Special order apparently as the mcv is a late GS and the exhaust is different. Im.planning on keeping the standard rear boxes. Hopefully this means on start up I can still keep the noise to a sensible level as well as keeping the car looking original. Anyonr have experience of changing cats and x pipe but keeping standard rears?

Have that combination on my MCV

Not sure why a special order is required apart from sports cat being a 2 bolt flange connection at the manifold end

What do u need to know?

Hi Adam
Apparently the later gran sports have a different exhaust manifold and Larini don't carry them as stock. Did you notice any performance improvement after fitting the sports cats? Do you get any cabin drone? In non sports mode at low speeds how much louder is the sound than the stock system?

Absolutley, very noticeable

Do you get any cabin drone?
Very minor @ around 2000rpm hady noticeable

In non sports mode at low speeds how much louder is the sound than the stock system?
