Soon to be (I hope!) a 4200 owner!

Hi all!

After starting my search for a new car with what I thought was a well-defined short list of either a 4.2 XKR or an early Cayman S, I've fallen down the rapid hole of looking for a 4200 Coupe instead - solidified by a quick test drive in a facelifted model this afternoon.

My objective with changing cars is to trade down from my current 2015 XE S to free up some cash while keeping something on the drive that makes me giggle whenever I spot it through the living room window, and the Maserati I never knew I wanted looks like it'll fit that bill very, very nicely.

Finding the sportsmaserati forum is one of the big things that's tilted me over from the 'sensible' side of looking at a Cayman; this community is a bloody rare thing, and it's amazing to see the depth of knowledge on here about Maserati, and the honest owner experiences has helped with my Man Maths considerably.

Given I'm looking for a manual, it could be a while before I'm quote-unquote official, but it's nice to be here all the same!

I have a facelift manual I've been considering selling. Can't make up my mind whether to or not. Drop me a line if interested.
Andy.

In terms of smiles and giggle the 4200 will be a trade up with the benefit of cash back ! ;)

Good luck with the search. There is a low miles manul 4200 for sale at the moment. I think it is on ebay. I will have a look if its still around.

After today's test drive, I 100% agree on the giggles front!!

The manual above looks nice if strong money (really what they should be worth), if you haven't driven a CC version try one before you totally count it out as there are more of them about and once you get used to the paddles they are pretty good.

This is the manual facelift 4200 that is on ebay. 39k miles, GS wheels and 12 service stamps.

That's the very car I test drove yesterday as it is relatively local to me! The GS wheels are really very nice in person I have to admit. The car itself is priced too highly for my blood though. :(

From what I've read/heard from a good ferret around, the CC box definitely does seem to have a lot of love from some drivers, though not all. That said, one of the big things on the list of wants for my new car is a proper manual; I've been in automatics for a few years and I really miss it - my left hand is far too bored!

The dealer with the grey car could well be sitting on that for months at that asking price. No harm in offering him the more realistic market value today, which is several thousand less than the asking. Make him decline, and then leave him pondering about that decision when he still has the car come next Sprint.

I’d want a facelift version over the earlier car, but there are not many anyway, let alone if you then limit your search to manuals. There’s only ever likely to be one or two for sale at any given time, at least one of which is likely to need plenty spent on it, or be high mileage. It’s a tiny market.

There definitely isn't the same level of choice as with an XKR or a Cayman, that's for sure!

Out of interest, how come you would much prefer the facelift? From a little sleuthing on here it seems the main difference is cosmetic, or am I wrong?

For me it would be for cosmetic reasons. I much prefer both the exterior and interior look of the facelift 4200. And it even has a cup holder!
(In the past, of that lineage, I’ve had two 4200 Spyders, an early 4200 coupe manual, and a GranSport. But the interior of the facelift 4200 coupe is better than all of those IMO.)

Jamie,
As requested, some photos.
Let me know if it's of interest, if so I'll type up info regarding all the work done, mods, service history etc.
I would like to get around £11500 for it if possible.
Andy.

Lovely car that. If I was in the market for a 4200 it would be on my list.

That looks lovely and much more realistically priced than the grey one. Definitely worth a look for the OP.

what's the difference with the interior other than the dials?
