Winter last year was a real challenge for me. The warm, wet, humid rush of south westerly air that melted the weeks long freeze condensed out on seemingly everything…!

A lot of activity since I last looked! Thanks for all the kind advice everyone - I'm definitely stepping into a 4200 with my eyes open, and it's good to see so many of you running your cars through the winter too. I've never been in a position to have more than one car, so good to know they don't immediately catch fire and explode the moment the ground frosts up. I don't do huge miles every year (thank you remote working with an occasional, short commute to the office), and being without the car would rarely cause any serious issues for me, so I'm confident all will be well(ish); especially with a solid example of the breed.

Back in 2004 I lived in London and had a 4200 (kept on the street) as my daily car, and it was fine. No catching fire or exploding. So relax. Buy a Maserati. You’ll be fine.

Maybe ... but I wonder why it's in an auction? If I owned a low mileage car that like that, I'd try for a commission sale through a reputable specialist dealer in the first instance ... obviously, it'd have to be in top condition for that.

Agreed but not the easiest thing to sell if it needs a bit of work. It has an inspection report apparently by HR OWEN who are pretty thorough. I suppose it depends on whether you want a bargain that needs a bit of work which when done leaves you with a low mileage example or you want something showroom fresh to drive straight away.

For 15,000 miles it’s a bit ropey with the steering wheel leather lifting and the sticky buttons. I know they can be fixed without too much outlay but bit off putting for a potential purchaser who’s not familiar with how to fix.

Absolutely I bought my first 4200 back in 2010 the first one I saw just 8 years old then had 4 years of pleasure used almost daily and tracked too along with a Great European trip.
The second went to New Zealand with me loved the 4200 Coupes.

How does that happen to the leather, the glue giving up because it’s been baked in the sun for too long(?) … Suggests it’s been a bit neglected outside rather than the garage queen you’d expect with such low mileage.

I seem to remember mine appeared after a Winter lay-up. It was quite straightforward following a thread guidance by a forum member called Cowsurgeon. It looks terrible with the blisters.
The MOT history don’t read too good for such a low mileage car but it’s probably the lack of use that’s caused the problems.

I'd be more inclined to buy a known well looked after example with more miles than a low miler with issues unless it was a cost effective price. Certainly not worth paying a premium for that one it doesn't seem.

I've never seen a 4200 steering wheel that bad and even the heater dials look worn on the corners no?

Seems like a very very harsh 19k miles and as others have said might have sat outside for long periods possibly.

I couldn't leave the steering like that. Can't be a previous owner that cared so much for the car or was that fastidious you wouldn't have thought.

I’d make a bet it’s had new instrument cluster / clocks at 3 yrs old and “forgotten” to mention in the advert. 1000 miles at first mot is very unusual.
Be interested to see its full history / have a proper look at it.
