Just found out that my company, THOMAS COOK, has donated £1000 to the cause. They don't normally donate to research but they've made an exception as it's in memory of Ryan. It's nice to see that multi-national companies don't always forget the personal touch. We are getting there!

Morning everyone. I have a bit of bad news that affects the cycle.

Urbys 95 year old dad is unfortunately gravely ill and thus Urby may no make the cycle. Drewf had kindly offered to cycle part of the route with me, but he has to be in Dijon right in the middle of it.

Can I ask, if any keen SM cyclists fancy taking over from Urby, for all or part of the tour, can you pm me your number to discuss. Thanks.

The event starts in North London on Sunday 27th September and we return back to the UK 2 weeks later on the weekend of 10th/11th October.

This is a self funded event so you will be responsible for your hotels and food but the ferry and return leg is already sorted so that will be included.

Obviously, an event of this duration (circa 900 miles in 12 days) you will need to be a serious cyclist with a bike capable of making the trip.

I'm very sorry to hear that Urby, I hope for better news for your father.

Unfortunately I'm a terrible cyclist but I hope this can all work itself it out.

Best wishes

Sorry to hear that, I'd be well up for it but certainly can't get time off work because I've already used up my holiday! Mainly on Forum events :)

I'd love to be able to do it, however, I don't have the stamina, nor anywhere near it yet, my longest ride is 37 miles! and just don't have the time to take off of work.
The bike is more than capable though!

Hopefully someone will be able to step in or people will be able to do a relay across the route.

Matt has just phoned, and we have a plan. Since I no longer need to be in Dijon for the F2 race weekend, (or rather, I'd like to be but it's not going to happen this year), I can cover the ride if necessary. Matt is now worrying about being able to sustain 25mph all day, but he'll get used to it ;)

Obviously, we all hope that Urby's father pulls through and will be fit and stable to allow Urby to complete the ride as planned.

Matt, you might want to remove your mobile number from your earlier post, as it's a pain when Bots trawl the site and harvest it for the spam-callers...

Thanks Drew, you are a potential star! I removed Matts number as you suggested.

Sadly my training on the not so sober tour of Touquet with Fat Maf on the back for the outward leg on the wobbly hotel courtesy bike was not enough training for me to be a suitable volunteer.

The return stint was even harder since I had got to the point where I had even forgot I had locked the bike up in the centre of Touquet, and then trying to find the hotel, when it was a struggle for the peleton to find the restaurant earlier on in the evening.

Will be starting on the Turbo Trainer this week, trying to improve fitness & physique. Good Luck Matt & Drew - a top up on its way.
