Mixed experiences with Land Rover products from the posts obviously but just to give some balance my experience has been on the whole positive. I had a previous model Range Rover 02 reg V8 petrol, bought second hand from a LR main dealer at 3 years old, kept it for 9 years and 70K miles and it never let me down or had any problems other than once with a failed diff (a known problem, fixed at LR cost). Had a V8 Disco before that from new which was also reliable over 10 years. Traded the RR for the new model RR and love that too, same so far no problems.
Im very interested in your experience with your new Range Rover as if they get cheaper second hand could be a very tempting proposition. How is the engine ? Do you find it's performance adequate? Would be great to see some pics !

Same size as a Q5 but bigger than an evoque,to be honest it's not too small and like Andy I agree that's part of its appeal.
New shape Range Rover on the other hand is gargantuan but also I think that's part of its appeal and I think that's the only SUV that mixes true go anywhere ability with luxury.

Going to see it next week but a new engine is due in around six months and a fellow member posted on this thread how utterly disappointed he was with it when he test drove it.

I've test driven an auto Disco Sport and thought it was great. Personally I would wait for the new engines.

All depends on what you want though. Audi Q3/Q5 are good cars FWIW as is the Tiguan. You would get a good deal on the latter as a new one is due.

I've got a 55 plate RRS Supercharged & it is a fantastic car & now great value second hand. Suspension needed some work at 70k but that is normal & par for the course. Well specd very comfortable goes anywhere & drives/sounds great.
Wife has Freelander 2 SD4 HSE & although she loves it & it is fine the 2.2 engine is a little old tech /noisy/rough. Not good enough for me though. Was good in the garden last weekend!
Had an XC90 for a short while & very practical & sensible/reliable but drove like a tractor/ bag of spanners.
Drove the new Touareg & XC60 & liked them both.

Not sure about the Volvo..The older ones look great but that has lost some of its identity for me. Volvo have made some great looking cars of late but that one doesn't do it for me......Think they have made it to Audi maybe...

The V6 is excellent. Lighter and better balanced car than the V8 - Mike Cross (JLR Chief Engineer) reckons it's the one to have. The L405 is much lighter than the previous model so V6 is fine (it's much quicker than my old V8). I think they have sold lots more V8s, because if it's your only car you tend to err on the side of more power, and people assume more means better, and RR is associated with V8 (nothing wrong with that!). Here's the Pistonheads review at the launch: “The one to have, though, is the V6, preferably on the smallest, 20-inch wheels. 7.4 seconds to 62mph, 130mph, 196g/km, 442lb ft of torque and a £71,295 starting price. On real roads it might not have quite the ballistic surge of the V8s but it's plenty quick enough for an SUV. It, too, is ultra-refined and un-diesel-like, and it also both handles and rides the best. The V8s still feel a bit SUV-like, with large masses being shifted and a feeling of forces being fought, and they can thud heavily into road-breaks. The V6 steers sweetly and naturally, you're hardly aware of the minimal extra roll, and it eases beautifully over bumps while feeling much more agile than it should. Physics are defied best here.†http://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-driven/driven-new-range-rover/26576

If I was on a farm I would have a Toyota Land Cruiser. The world could end and it would probably still be running.

Sounds fantastic and a attractive ownership proposition.
Does the size make driving in town and parking difficult?
