So because it says in the owners handbook/service schedule to check every 10k, 20k, 30k etc this is their get out? No mention of metal fatigue along the forge line? We know to check them and other specialists have found them to be cracked in the past. Talk about failing to acknowledge that there is an issue at all and send out a letter which basically points its finger at owners who have taken their cars to a specialist or indy and resolves them of any form of recourse regarding health and safety now.

Talk about getting our backs up!

DVSA have basically let them wriggle out of any responsibility; sadly I think in legal terms this would clear them in the event of a fatality (I hope this never happens)? What a bunch of merchant bankers!

Not quite - nowhere in the letter does it mention a requirement for the scheduled servicing and maintenance to be performed by a main dealer.

Having it performed by a specialist or indy is perfectly acceptable under European law, and Maserati will be well aware of this.

My reading of this is that they suggest only that the problem will arise in cars which have not been correctly maintained and serviced. Clearly this is incorrect, and I believe we can take further action regarding this. However, we are effectively back at square one with Maserati and DVSA, since they have reached a conclusion and it will be extremely difficult to persuade them to reconsider.

No this is just wrong.... Wishbones are not a service item so how would any MD service department be any better at maintaining it than an indy or self service? MOT is the only time these would be checked and even then I seriously doubt any would be picked up as the dodgy forging line is hidden from easy view.

Maserati you REALLY should be ashamed of yourselves...

Dave don't worry we are already going down that route but it still sucks. Everyone on here with a deposit down on a new Ghibli, QP or Alfieri should cancel on this. **** 'em!

Cheers Phil - Agree with your sentiments fully!!

I'm confused. The letter states lack of correct vehicle maintenance can lead to issues with the bushes which in turn leads to issues with the arms. Am i right in saying that they don't sell the bushes separately?? So what maintenance exactly are they suggesting?

Bingo!

The maintenance they are suggesting will be to replace in total any arms where the bushes are starting to show signs of deterioration. Obvious.

If VOSA have bought this fairytale from Maserati that this is a serviceable item and it is lack of maintenance by irresponsible owners that is responsible for the cracks then VOSA need to explain what evidence they have accepted from Maserati to support this basis. I do not recall bones being listed on the service list, nor the service check routines, nor the X years change list............and then there is the evidence of maintenance routines...... ok let me look at why this is a load of pants, Marci was in being serviced & health checked 1k before I bought her, she then had a full service & health check 2k after i got her and a further health check 1.5k later when I had the gearbox issue..............at no time during those 3 (mark me here, 3!!!)health checks over a 7 month period of only 4.5k miles were there any cracks identified, but then at 6k since the first service (5k after I got her) the front bone cracks wide open..............this is not a frequency of maintenance issue - this is a manufacture process issue

If it had affected mine, and that was their reply then I would be getting an independent NDT of the part or parts. We are still surmising over the root cause.

The replacement bushes are available separately. I think the issue is that you have to catch it soon enough before a failing bush causes a cracked or failed wishbone and there aren't many outward signs that a bush is failing.

You sure? From Maserati?

So no surprises there then. So we continue in the background with an alternative solution, what this space.

I bought mine from eurospares who assured me they were OEM as I didn't want the superformance ones. I feel a call to a dealer coming....
