Warning!

+1 does maserati actually sell them. I thought that was the whole point. Pressing them out could be causing the fractures etc etc

I will confirm, we know they don't sell the rear toe link spherical bearing but I have not read anywhere to date that the bushes are NLA. As for pressing them out causing the problem, it didn't in my case (they were crack tested before and after) but that isn't a scientific study. I did also remove the excess material around the bush end. I have been checking regularly and haven't seen any evidence of deterioration.

I think you will find the Maserati line here is that the complete arm needs replaced and they do not recommend replacing bushes or ball joints, and if you do you are not following maintenance guidelines. so i think talk of replacement bushes is the opposite of what is needed its the suspension arm that is the problem not the bush. I got a letter too, so I suppose this is the only action we will see is a warning that it needs looked at.

I got my letter today too. They've got us over a barrel here. I'll refrain from writing my feelings at the moment. The one positive is that at least owners now know and maybe it could save someone. Like Mrs Phil's car, mine has been mainly dealer serviced, so incorrect maintenance historically would be down to them.

Any of the Idies care to comment? I'd put my faith in them long before the main dealers.

Got mine today - 2006 GS with FSH and two cracked wishbones- very, very disappointed with this! Maserati have no morals at all....

I have to say that im spectacularly unimpressed with the letter I received today. The inference is that "a lack of correct vehicle maintenance" could lead to a potential issue with the integrity of the suspension lever bushes. My car has been serviced annually in accordance with the "scheduled maintenance" and following the last service at a respected Maserati independent and a MOT inspection I discovered 2 cracked arms thanks to this forum. I believe Mark's arm failed after he replaced the bushes. What more could I/we have done?
I would be interested to learn if any of the main dealers or independents have received advice on these cracks and condition of bushes over and above what they historically checked.
Not every Maserati owner belongs to this forum so I guess that the notice to all owners will reduce the risk to other owners who may be unaware but I just feel that Maserati could have been so more pro-active.
Will I feel any safer if my vehicle is checked? - I guess so but it comes down to the quality of the checking and what are they looking for. Is there any advice as to what constitutes the condition of a bush and what criteria determines if it needs need to be replaced. Surely you dont wait until it cracks?

I assume if you now drop your car into a main dealer for a service with the faintest hint of bush wear / rust they will recommend wishbone replacement.

Wow what a cop out **** covering response

If the vehicle has been religiously service by the dealer network and has suffered the failure(s), then i would be inclined towards making public noise (after taking advice) to pressure for a maserati rethink

Just not good enough

We certainly have not received any notice down here.
I religiously check any UK imported car as they are the ones that have corrosion issues from salt and winter weather NZ car's do not rust and corrode.
Keeping the car's clean and protected on the underside is the way forward.
Phil.

I must say I was pretty miffed with that letter I received today....to be honest I knew when it came to it Fiat were going to blag it one way or another.

Ok, we move on and manufacture our own suspention components ..under the SM licence!

I had a letter too I have owned my 3200GT for about a year it was bought with a flood damaged engine which was replaced I have also replaced the items that you would expect too on a 15 year old car like the Rad and Air con condenser (Air con still not working) now I am having to replace the abs unit at £1600 because it wont MOT with a couple of warning lights on How much are the wishbones going to cost??? The suspension on this kind of car should not be prone to fatigue or breaking................It wasn't a Dog and the mileage is pretty low but I am beginning to wish I never bought the rubbish ....... Its still an awesome looking car perhaps I will just park it up and look at it!!!!!

Ry, read my buying guide before buying. It's a must and also shows how much an inspection is necessary on these cars.

Well, in fairytale land Maserati would have held their hands up and conceded the fact their product was not fit for purpose (sure I've heard of that issue before with consumer goods!), in Corporate land where we all live they've shafted us royal, surely someone over the pond has had this issue, if nothing else the U.S. Lawyers will stand up to Maserati S.P.A. & their bullsh*t....

Why not try to get some free storage over winter - just choose a dealer and drop it of for a service and leave it with them. Don't mention the arms but don't accept it back until they have completed the inspection of all service items (including arms). See how long it takes them to complete the inspection. If they do mention the arms just ask them where it is on the service record and when & why it was added and wasn't checked before. Ideally there would be 1/2 dozen cars blocking up an average dealer for quite some time.
