What are those little things on that rack? They look like weights, only smaller.

Month 1 update.

Weight loss has slowed down as I lost the bulk of it in Q4 of 2020... for the last 3 out of 4 weeks I was reading between 74.3 and 74.7kg

This last week we had no takeout other than Mchorror last night because the chicken wings we had in the fridge were off... I also stopped drinking mid week and I have been doing daily planks on instruction from my PT and I am showing 73.7kg consistently for the last two days... Annoyingly the wife and I polished a bottle of vodka in two days so let's see what that does to the scale next week

With the gym closed my PT has been doing outdoor and virtual sessions. For leg day I have been going out on my mountain bike on the weekends doing XC in the local woods, hill trials in mud cold and rain for around 20km to 30km then focus on upper with the PT using the dumbbells and bench at home... I have progressed to 12.5kg dumbells now which doesn't sound like much but after holding them for 30 minutes they feel like 50kg

Diet wise I have got used to the lifestyle of eating very little carbs, not much dairy other than a bit of cheese a couple of times a week (wife is lactose intolerant).

Finally my 2 cents on the weight fluctuation discussion over the last couple of pages - it is mostly down to water retention. If you consider 1ml of water weight 1g then if you have drunk a pint of water and weigh yourself you have put on over a lb (or 568g). I tend to weigh myself at the same time every morning to help with consistency

Well done chap. You're absolutely right about the water. Not also that each gram of glycogen (which will be created when carbs are eaten) is stored with a gram of water....

I'm gonna have to start seriously getting on with getting rid of Christmas. New scales have some good numbers and some bad ones. Need to work on the bad ones (mostly sub cutaneous fat, which is not a surprise, but actually better than I expected)

So after a month off the booze and a deliberate effort to shed the weight I put on in December (when I did no exercise, ate badly and drank almost every day) I have hit my target of 15 1/2 stone.

Onwards and upwards downwards!

Good show!

After my session this morning the PT has upped my calorie intake for the next 6 weeks.

Over the last 4 months I've lost a reasonable amount of fat and now have more defined muscle, and so now we're going into more of a build phase and then aim to lose the fat for the summer months and get "beach body ready"

In other words, I get to eat as much as I can for 6 weeks! :)
So long as it's the right kind of food, maintaining my current split of macros.

In the absence of your own natural padding, will you have to fit comfier seats in the Elise, Dan?

Ok Fellas thought i’d put up some stats.
My aim this year isn’t weight loss but rather get back to some decent level of fitness and regain all the muscle I lost. Unfortunately another op or two will get in the way from time to time but the increased fitness should help me recover quicker.

Bought a new set of scales (Withings) and figures for body fat are widely different to my previous ones which showed around 10-10.5%.I Had to check they were safe for me to stand on, maybe my pacemaker is affecting the reading?
Anyway, they set benchmarks against which future progress can be measured.

Having done nothing for 9 weeks my new “hybrid” heart is now getting into the groove and I can see progress in my cardio.

So that’s good progress and I’m still sore in my chest so onwards and upwards!

Does this look 17.4%?81363

Yeah it does fatty :)

But seriously, this illustrates the danger of relying on metrics. I have only recently got my BMI below a level where I am not considered to be clinically obese (30) and although I am certainly carrying unnecessary weight, I am only about a stone heavier than I was when playing rugby at my peak.
