MAF...had a browse through the other 3200s on the PH site................my comment stands..................based on those prices......sure there are a few above and a few below............and at these prices top end versus bottom end may only be 2 K or so.
They have gateway episodes, both in the mind of the buyer and the market.
First is year.................now over 10 yrs old.
Second is mileage......50 k ...then 60K...........people get sacred off.........cos if they can just about to afford to buy this car....can they afford 3 K to put something which broke wrong?...answer usually no.
Hence their value...............its been on sale for a while.......no takers.............now the seller is that despondent, he's prepared to SORN it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What does that tell you about the seller...the market AND any buyer?!
These are things the seller and market have decided.....
.NOT MOI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We both have our opinions....................and they remain
just that..........................ignorance aside....IMHO........
P
Agree on opinions, that what makes debate interesting & fun.
Maseratis generally don't sell quickly unless they are an absolute bargain (rare) or happen to be the perfect spec/colour etc. for a buyer. They are uncommon cars and almost every one is different, hence the appeal can be lower and the car takes longer to find it's perfect buyer.
3200 values are less affected by year, much more on condition and provenance. The earliest 3200 is 12 years old, the youngest 8 - not much difference. Mileage opinions vary wildly - a garage queen that's done very little mileage and could start to play up when used more regularly could equally scare off a buyer from a high-miler. 60k is nothing for these cars, there are plenty around with similar and higher mileage that cause their owners no problems. Cam chain service required at 68k - some never bother and some do. The cost of this has come down considerably in recent years and is less to be scared of. Your point about people scraping their last pennies together to buy a car which they cannot afford to run applies to any car ever made. I don't understand it's relevance in your valuation of a car which has just had thousands spent on maintenance?
How do you know the seller is despondent? Have you spoken to him or is this more supposition made public due to ignorance? You don't know the seller's state of mind or reason for sale - don't speculate wildly with nothing to back it up. For all you know he's working abroad/whatever and will lock the car away until his return. You say the car has been on sale for a while - the advert is 4 days old!
You ask what that says about the seller, the market and any buyer. I'll answer with my opinion - it says the seller has prepared a car well for sale. He's given good information about the car and has spent money recently on it to keep it well-maintained. He has stated that he's not open to silly offers and will take the car off the road if it doesn't sell.
It says the market hasn't yet responded to an advertisement that is just 4 days old for a rare, specialist supercar that may or may not suit every potential 3200 buyer due to colour combination and gearbox. How quickly do you expect this to sell Frank? Do you get despondent if you don't sell a car in 4 days?
I don't know what your statement says about any buyer, it's nonsense to speculate.
All I can see is that the seller has decided is to sell his rather nice looking, well-maintained 3200 for a reasonable price. Unless you know more, or can read something in the ad I haven't seen? The market has decided nothing.
I sold my 3200 earlier this year, having first put it up for sale late last year. It was arguably one of the very best on the market at the time, having excellent provenance and money spent where required (and then some!). It took around 5 months to sell, achieving very close to the asking price. I wasn't despondent, just waiting for the right buyer to come along who really wanted the car which is what happened.
I stand by my view that you have made comments without any justification, substantiation or sufficient knowledge and that some of these comments are damaging to Maserati values.
