On the hottest day of the year so far I've started changing the ignition switch , got the wheel and the cowling off ,the boss is still on, does it have to come off because it's going to need a puller , did a quick search but couldn't find a how to from this point on

Just been out and had a look, you're correct I'll have to drill it, looks like I can get to it without removing anything else though but it'll have to wait until tomorrow evening , that's when the shade hits the front, it was baking this afternoon

The heads normally shear off. Not a lot of point in screwing them in if you can just unscrew it.....

the switch moves in the housing so it can't be very tight20170525_193607.jpg

Expect a drilled through the wiring loom post this time tomorrow :D

That will be something to look forward to :)

I'm assuming the switch is running west to east?

Seriously, be nice to my car! ;)

Yes switch W to E screw in the top, there's a bit of slack in that loom so it'll be out of the way , the only thing I'm concerned about is getting the drill square on the screw as the instrument binnacle might get in the way

Looking good.

As for those angle drills, they are good just, as with any metal drilling, its not about rotation speed, its about a descent drill and not letting it burn.

Keep the drill at a low, constant speed and buy a new bit for the job.

I have never had much luck drilling stuff over the years due to the advice above. In the end I bite the bullet and bought these after my bodyshop recommended them to me.

They retail for over £100 but as per usual, deals are to be had on Ebay, seriously, worth every penny, I paid over £50 for them a couple of years ago:

No probs Cat, my previous attempts at drilling metal resulted in whizz, whizz, snap!

Had these 2 years and use them regularly and all still 100% sharpe. At £40 they are a steel.

You can also replace them as they are sold individually if you loose or break one.

Oh, is this the repair for the 'wiggle the key to make most of the electrics work' issue...?

Use a Dremmel with a small diameter cutting disc and cut a slot in the head of the screw big enough to take the bade of a screwdriver. Then unscrew out!

I've got that issue, really had me going when first happened, now I know to make sure I wiggle the key its fine!

I first experienced it the day I collected the car :(
Got it away form the previous owners house ok, and parked up and had a look around / conversation with my wife, all ok.
Then we stopped again to set sat navs, still ok.
Finally, we are on the road and get separated / sat navs take different routes.
Being in a new and unfamiliar car, I hadn't checked the fuel gauge, and, well, we all know these things are quite thirsty.
I then realise that my wallet is in the other car...

So, my intro to Maserati ownership was going to a petrol station - asking if I could try to use my mobile phone contactless payment - which I'd never done before - to then get 30 quid of fuel.
Returning to the car to realise:
a. I had no idea where the fuel cap release button was.
b. When I eventually opened the glove box, the button made a sound but didn't open the flap.
c. Realising that passenger side glove box buttons and drivers side fuel caps are very awkward to press and see simultaneously.

and finally, when the whole 'car collection day' was already ruined, my flakey 1st entry to anything like Italian exotica rewarded me with no working indicators, aircon or wipers (but I think the scoosher still worked!)

I'd arrived ;)
