well the car was definitely in sport mode.

Sport mod......Didn't think that turned the traction off.....Doesn't sport just tighten up the sterring feel, make it a bit stiffer and make it sound better. Think you need to press a separate button to turn off the traction control

Sport does not turn traction off....on the GS it changes the suspension and throttle response and also adds a grunt wkth the exhuast

You need to press the MSP button to turn off traction control, but in this weather I'm not sure I would dare. :-(

Only a real man would dare turn it of Miles...Or someone as mad as a box of frogs...

Can't remember which buttons I played with to be honest Adam.

When I took you out I did turn off the MSP as I had heard that this was good thing to do when on ice - but then put it back on pretty sharpish. Ice mode is interesting - as far as I can tell it just up-changes like an auto at low revs which I'm sure is good on ice and snow but probably not that good on well gritted roads. Presumably this over-rides the Sport setting for the engine response but keeps the suspension firm and the exhaust values open?

I used to spend a lot of time in Germany and most people with fast cars tend to put on some grotty steel wheels/cheap alloys with winter tyres - can't help but think that this sort of set up would be ideal for driving the GS in the snow. Presumably you would need a laser alignment every time you changed the wheels, but I guess it would work out cheaper than running two cars.

Didn't manage to get to B&Q on Friday, but went to Wickes instead (makes where we live sound like a DIY paradise) to pick up some stuff for the house. Thought I might to a cheeky spin in the car part before I left. Set myself up in the Lexus..... and ....it wouldn't move. So when I finally did get some traction (short of filling the boot with bricks) I decided to just go home.....at about 5mph.

I've just driven back to South Essex from Thetford / Ely and the drive just got prettier as I went on there is a fantastic haw-frost developing on the hedgerows and trees with splendid ice formations... I bet it is going to be murder tonight for black ice though! about -2 at the moment most of the way too.
