Dieselgate

It seems some conclusions are being reached with VW over their lying cheating corrupt dieselgate scandal.
A close friend had a Passat diesel some 7 or 8 years ago and various emails flitted between the parties and a settlement reached of the order of a few thousand pounds. Monies due in next 3 weeks or so.
I do not wish to be more exact as there are many many clauses in the settlement that warn of disclosing information to others and severe consequences. Another shabby German trick.
Anyway my point is VW have got away with it where other companies may well have gone bust

at the risk of sounding dim i cant see why they need to pay individuals compensation and i hope those irritating radio commercials stop soon, something about a deadline and to get your claim in asap

I imagine most people will be committing perjury to make a claim.
I know someone who has made a claim and he had to make a declaration to the effect that “he would not have bought the car if he knew the true emission figures”
Reality is that he, like most of us gave it no thought at all and infact, benefitted from similar false figures by paying less tax on his company car.

That really is the crux of the court cases.

If the true Co2 figures for X vehicle had been known then the 1000s of company car buyers would not have even looked at that vehicle because the BIK rate for company would have been too high and road tax would have been higher based on the true emmisions.

Which means the manufacturers sold far more cars with higher power / spec / true emissions than they would at £k extra profit per car.

The manufacturers benefited from fraudulant figures used to advertise the cars and sway peoples choices.

The companies that didnt employ those tactics lost out in sales as a result.

You would think that they would be liable for a loss of taxes claim from the Government for all those cars dropped down a car tax bracket or two as a result of dodgy practices.

In the eyes of some people Dave VW can do no wrong.

Yes but say you had paid £2k for luxury leather, to find out years later that it was infact £10 plastic they used then you would want some comeback. Even though your a*se would be no different having sat on the cheap plastic..

I dont really see the comparison, the point I was making is that most people dont even consider CO2 emissions when buying a car and for those that do, they benefitted from the miss information rather than lost out.

excellent, cant see why people are moaning then, they should thanking VW

Hmmm its ok to commit fraud then on a massive scale.

The manufacturers involved were all guilty of false advertising and fraud.

I bought one of the cars involved and i have not put a claim in but that doesnt mean i think they should be allowed to get away with the scam.

If anyone has been ripped anyone off it’s the uk taxpayer. People should have been paying higher VED. Now if the govt had come back to individuals for more VED then I guess owners would have a case against VW. But they saved money!
Is the government also putting in a claim?
I’m a tax payer, can I claim because my taxes may have been higher because of the lower VED tax take?

No, they are giving a few ‘000 to owners who may well use it as a deposit on an electric car. Hang on, the claimed range on those is total bullcr@p too, to the tune of about 20%!

Get ready to claim again in a few years!

As VW made extra millions at the detriment of the tax-payer and of course the environment, that the comp' should go back to those rather than car owners, who in the main cared not a jot.

lets face it those folk that are claiming don't really give a dam about the fraud imo and are simply riding the band wagon for free money, i don't blame them for claiming but lets not kid ourselves that they bought cars purely on the basis that they wanted to save the planet, that's simply poppycock

Well having read the comments my view is VW were/are deceitful liars who deliberately manipulated their products and presented them as some thing they were not to the public to increase sales and hence make more money.
The recompense has been in my experience derisory and too long coming. People have died whilst waiting for the payment
VW cheated and lied consistently like Enron a few years ago they (Enron) went bust but VW have escaped
A shabby German trick as Cpt Mainwaring would say :)
