Mrs D would beat the living sh!t out of me if I went back to standard and she never used to like loud cars!

Did you get any further with this? I'm thinking about tweaking the system on my 2008 4.2 and wondered if just changing the X-pipe had made a difference? I don't want anything too loud - just a bit more meat.

Thanks.

David

Hi David

No I didn't partly because the cost was prohibitively expensive.

However, I am thinking that if an X pipe DOES make a difference then I'd spend £300 or £400 quid (as opposed to thousands which seems a bit silly to me).

Can anyone fill me in (without the meat jokes.... ;-) )

I can recommend an X-pipe from Benny. At least on my 4200. Although it's not loud enough yet, there's a good improvement. Made the bloke in Pisa jump out of his seat at least :D

If I had a 4200 or GS it would be done for sure. Cannot see any reason not too really!

Cheers. What sort of money are we talking and where's the best place to get it from?

Mine was about £200 + the VAT plus the fitting. I could probably have fitted it myself but the car was in anyway so it didn't seem worth the buggered knuckles and foul language.

Ditto. Fitting was £80 if I recall. And it was a total bugger (even though it's a 4200, not a GT)

Thanks Mark and Phil - it was hearing from Mark about the H-pipe that convinced me - am sure Mr B will be somewhere shaking his head and muttering 'wimp' but I'm not after the full blown volume, rather the deeper nassier sound. And Phil's feedback on Mark's system makes me think i've made the right decision. We shall see.....

You'll still have plenty of volume, Simon, just at a lower pitch. Get some vids up when you've finished grinning like an idiot after fitting it!!

Have had H-pipe fitted, and my god - the sound when accelerating is truly exceptional! I was trying to think what it reminds of, and I've come up with perhaps similar to a nascar sound, or perhaps like the dubbed sound they used for Bullitt's Mustang, or possibly even like a Maserati from the 50s or 60s (I need to check on youtube how a 250F sounds).

Anyway, simply stunning sound. Only thing is for me it is possibly a little too much around town. I felt far more conspicuous when I restarted and drove out of the petrol station. I'm sure I'll get used to it though....but on the open road it really is epic!

Oh and Mark re a video, well with the best part being the hard acceleration which I can't video. On tick over it doesn't give any indication of the driving sound. It has to be experienced in the flesh I'm afraid!

Lol does it pop and bang like Marks on lift off too! I agree the soundtrack is Detroit all the way. Like a proper Bullit theme tune!

Phil yes the H-pipe has increased the volume of pops on the overrun - I will reserve judgement for now but I hope it doesn't become too much for me. But as I said the sound when accelerating is something to behold. It's every boys dream to eventually have a car that sounds like this! It certainly turns a few heads!
