GTS iPod connectivity - idiots guide

Folks,

Having secured my 2009 GTS yesterday. The car has AUX and usb sockets in the glove box and the previous owner has left the 'Y' cable also. This is exact same setup as my current M3.

So I had a very quick play with my iPod. Plugged it in and my music started to play. However I couldn't figure out how to control it etx. I'm sort of away of this jukebox thing. What should happen with an iPod. Just plug and play? I assume jukebox is songs huge downloaded to the harddrive only?

Can someone give me a quick step by step idiots guide of how ipod connectivity / control 'should' work please. What menus / buttons should be used to find the songs etx

Thanks in advance

Once it is plugged in and it is connected to Aux (if not push source until it does).

Then hit the button "List" and it will show a list of albums on your iPod which you can then use the rotating knob on the list side to select.

Thanks hoyin. As much as I'll be listening to the car when I collect her next Saturday. I'll have a 3 hour drive home so will want to have some tunes available.

Thanks again

Help pls - I can't get my iPOD connected to my 2008 GT

I am plugging it into the adaptor in the glove box - this I believe was fitted when the car was new from Maranello. Playing a tune on the iPOD - pressing the source button to AUX on the stereo - nothing happens - I've attached some pics. Can anyone help? Thanks

Hi Michael,

Does it work when you use the iPod to select what you want to listen to? My current cable has a single plug into the iPod which branches into the car's USB and the aux socket - USB charges, aux does music. With that cable there is no way of controlling the iPod using the car audio controls (other than volume). I have bought via eBay (but not yet received) another cable which came from a new Ghibli which in that car does allow control from the car BUT I don't know if the GTS iPod connectivity is clever enough to allow proper control. I'll find out when the thing arrives and update accordingly.

I know it sounds silly but there is a feature to turn the Aux on/off on one of the menus - purely connecting something does not auto switch on! The theory is that when you toggle between sources, aux will not come up if you do not use it.

Thanks Adam - I'll get a cable and try the USB and AUX together - I guess that will work. T

The one that has been fitted has an ipod cable and a 3.5mm jack (headphone size) - this should allow you to change song etc - but when I plug both or one in no sound.

This ^^

Plus turning the car and off and on again should help.

Plus you need to plus both items in the USB and audio to your iPod.

Just ordered a headphone lead from Amazon - so will test tomorrow. What is annoying is that it has full iPOD lead that was an extra - so even if I get the basic one working I'd like the full one to function really. I think a trip to Maranello may be on the cards.

Cars are very hit and miss as to what you get iPod control wise.

On my 2014 Discovery I can play my iPhone via BT but I can't control it on the car's informatics screen. Thank fully a USB works fine and saves me running down my phone battery when listening to music. The Maserati system is very poor but it is an old car.

PS The system on BMWs is great.

My Jag and Merc systems were spot on, Bob. I had an iPod permanently plugged in and it just worked. Showed all the album, artist and track details and let me whizz through and pick what I wanted quickly and easily. The B&W system in the Jag was extraordinary as well. Thank God for the Maserati exhaust!

This is the cable folks below. It definitely recognises the ipod just doesn't play ball with the songs. I kept my BMW Y cable to try but must be a different pin configuration as with that the car doesn't even see the ipod

So it sees the Albums, can you not just press play and drill down into the album listings?

When I plug in I get this

Then once recognised I get this

Then inside the albums the songs just look like this

Trouble is it only shows 32 'albums' and from the 5-6 songs I've tried playing in various albums they are all guns n roses lol. So the ipod is being recognised but it fails from there forward.
Surely if there was a problem with earlier cars then Maserati would have issued a software update as for me it is just a software issue. Can't see it being hardware which is basically the Y cable only.

Have heard other complain it only plays a handful of songs. Just do the decent thing, turn it off, drop windows, press Sport and listen to the glorious V8 soundtrack!

I do genuinely hear you, I was listening to the glorious sound today! But I will cover 10k a year in here and some long journeys so would like to get the ipod going. Think I'll try the Bluetooth thing that was mentioned in my other thread. Worth a try
