GTS iPod connectivity - idiots guide

I tried fiddling with plugging a USB into the USB port again this weekend. Only the same 7 albums out of about 150+ that were on the stick would play. I tried removing them all and loading half a dozen. Only one would play. So, I've dug out a dusty iPod and will try that, suffice to say the Maserati entertainment system (exhaust / power / ... aside) isn't exactly cutting edge!

When I pick up my GTS on Saturday I'm going to say to the guys at Greypaul. 'Here is my iPhone, Please get it synced up, thanks'

Hopefully they can set it up there and then, something tells me that might be wishful thinking ..... Lol

That ain't going to happen!

Mind you I got mine working to work as a telephone via Bluetooth. But it is a bit temperamental.

Not sure how good the microphone in the car is though. Have a feeling it is not great.

I'm guessing by your avatar that yours is a 2012+ model?? Just curious as I was associating ipod problems with earlier cars only ?

I've paired my phone via bluetooth no probs and used it quiet a bit. I'm bracing myself for having to go down the Bluetooth route for using my iPod.

Registered early 2014 - but I have to confess I haven't tried an actual iPod yet. Planning to do so this evening - you can be assured I will let you all know of my <cough> success...

Re. Phone - this actually works 'ok'. Its not the most intelligent of systems e.g. no hands free dialing, but it seems to work for what it is. It still of course has the little sim slot on the 'multimedia console' - has anyone actually got a phone number specifically for their car? I thought this ended around 1990...

So, I plugged in an iPod last night and it worked! You have to plug in both cables - Aux and USB - which seems a bit weird, but it worked. That said, thus far I've only managed to get it to show there are 500+ (or whatever) songs on and you have to scroll through them to find whatever you want. Its not divided up by albums, but seems to suggest it might be accepting of the idea of playlists. A step forward...

...the downside is I loathe using iTunes with a passion, given that its an Apple product and therefore primarily for 'brand-bitches', in my opinion :). A hideous piece of software with a seeming inability to reliably communicate with either of the iPods in our house.

What this has re-emphasised to me also is the awful sound quality from the Maserati stereo - Bose or not. Perhaps they simply think "nah, lets not bother - people will only and should only listen to the engine", which is fine as far as it goes, but just once in a while you might want something else.

Really I find the sound quality to be fine. Though I adjusted the equaliser to more bass and a lot less treble. Sounds pretty good to me. Mind you I don't have a Mercedes to compare with.

The £750 harmon kardon logic 7 I left in my M3 was genuinely better then the £1200 Bose I have in the GT but it's not too bad and I can live with it. Imagine I would have been a bit let down with a standard system.

I've actually set the speakers one notch to the rear which seemed to balance it a bit better

Folks,

I have this in my paperwork and somebody has ticked every option I have. However, despite having both a USB and jack connection in my glovebox it looks to me like having them doesn't necessarily mean you had iPod functionality. If you look bottom left on the pic, it's not ticked !!

Yep it was an option, I remember paying for it on mine. What I don't know is whether it is just another lead or whether the connections within the glovebox are different too.

I was aware it was an option just thought that if you had the usb + jack connections that you had it, looks like that is incorrect and I'm guessing they all came with usb to allow MP3 files to be played / downloaded to jukebox ?

Sounds right. Don't worry your not missing much. I bought an £8 FM/ipod link and that works better!

That appears to be simply a BT dongle so that you don't have to physically connect your device. I sincerely doubt it'll give you any additional functionality

I am thinking that but gets lots of good reviews and someone on here posted they use it and it works. Still got a few things to try but am resigned to the fact I don't have ipod connectivity so will try and and if it fails I'll stick it up on eBay

What were the results with the cable I sent up, Ryan? I had expected that it would let you play from iPod to car but wasn't sure whether you have any ability to view and select songs from the iPod using the car audio controls.

Just waiting of someone bringing an iPod touch today adam. Then I'll try my older one and that and report back. Expecting failure though
