Stuck. GTS MC shift won't start. Just getvn clicking. Battery fine, drove 150 miles perfectly yesterday. Get park-brake failure messages, check transmission, go to dealer.

Battery currently disconnected.

Any ideas?

I think it's the battery despite it having been on trickle charge for days. The lights are dim, the electronic door switches don't work. Usual symptoms.

Can anyone remember the forum's preferred Bosch alternative to the standard for Maser battery?

No warranty, but hopefully I'm right about the battery. AA coming but I'll miss the boat from Portsmouth to Normandy. Will have to get the later one or get the tunnel. What a palaver.

Not what you want just before a trip, Adam. Family hol's?

I'm sure the AA will get you going, then off to halfrauds for a replacement.

Sounds like the battery.

I don't know what is is for a GT but the 4200/GS is a HSB 096.

FYI Halfords no longer sell Bosch. They now sell a brand call Yuasa that are apparently extremely good as well.

Thanks everyone.

Chris - 10 of us are accompanying my uncle, a D-Day veteran, to the 70th anniversary commemorations in Normandy. The Italian clearly didn't want to go.

'twas the battery. Flat as a witch's. Well, 8V. Apparently it's in good shape, though. So the question is, what caused it to die overnight? It's like I'd left the lights on. Something's drawing about 0.5A from it but that may have dropped more if we'd waited longer for all the various systems to shut down. So I'm a bit nervous about whether it'll start again later. In any case I'm now on the ferry to Le Havre with my youngest son - the rest of the contingent are on the earlier boat to Caen but we should make it to Ouistreham in time for dinner, battery permitting.

Mine done exactly the same, not a hint of any problem, used it on the evening but the next day it was as dead as a Dodo. The dealer fitted a new one under warranty, Maserati apparently moaned and said I should use a trickle charger, but the car was being used most days so I didn't see the need, I've never used one on any of my other cars and they all get used in the same fashion without battery issues.Definitely a flaw with the car but Maserati won't admit it. Having said that, shouldn't complain too much as they are pretty robust and don't seem to suffer any major problems, I think most owners can live with needing a new battery now and again.

Mine has done the same - the one night I did not bother to connect the charger. The car is going in soon and they will, hopefully, find out what the drain was as the battery and alternator tested fine.

Some chargers when not switched on at the mains and connected to a battery will actually draw current from the battery. I don't know how many do that, but I've come across some that do, only seen one car charger do that but must admit I don't test for it, just never do it anymore.

Glad you got her going and didn't miss out on dinner!
