Yep, 'tis rather embarassing - it happened to me at work with my old 4.2 base GranTurismo. They even took it away on the back of a transporter. But after a full check-over at the main dealer it was just a knackered battery with some faulty cells which wouldn't charge up. Batter changed for a new one under maunfacturer's warranty. Used a trickle charger after that just to be on the safe side and never had a problem again after that.

Glad it's up and running again now Merrian.

Lots of modern cars draw power for far too long. Checked my wiflets discovery, it's a full 45 minutes after switch off before it finally goes fully to sleep with just the alarm left drawing power. If you don't lock the doors I went out after 2 hours and it was still drawing power; after that I got bored.

My brother (who is an aircraft electrician), when he was installing my iPhone lead last month, pressed the hazard lights button and looked up at me and said 'there's your Maserati battery problem'.

He went on to explain that the button wasn't acting as a normal switch but from the delay between pushing it and the moment later when the indicators clicked into life he supposes the button is only acting as a command to a computer; and the computer is the problem because it has to be powered-up all the time waiting for such commands.

Ha ha, I just mean the standard (base) car (with the 4.2 litre engine), as opposed to the S, Sport, and MC variants (which all have the 4.7 litre engine).

That I can totally believe

Hmm. Mine's not base but it's certainly pretty bloody raucous at times. I like it like that.

I find it strange that the 4.7 has been built in 3 states of tune - 440, 450 and 460 PS. What's the point in that, like anyone could notice on the road?

Encourages people to buy new ones, maybe. But you're right, I can't see that it would be remotely possible to tell the engines apart in real life. I really like the four-seat Strad, mainly because of the exterior, but there is no way it's worth over twice what mine cost. Mind you, if I was buying new or nearly new and the dealer had one in the showroom I might crumble if the deal was attractive enough.

It's actually 4 when I think about it as the 4.7 came initially with 430PS in the QP.

I have the 440bhp GTS but have often wanted to see how much faster the sport version feels - I read in a review that most of the extra bhp is released high up in the rev range but have not driven it myself to experience

Yes, all standard. I should more accurately said 434bhp - apologies. A lot of places on the net round this up to 440bhp - I wonder why?

You could probably get that up to the 470 mark with a sports exhaust and a software upgrade / remap..!! Everybody likes to round stuff up to a higher level..??

The intake's pretty inefficient. I'd like to use an airtake under the bonnet and mounted right infront of the nostrils, but that would mean cutting a hole in the bonnet or buying a Stradale / Novitec one. Not a cheap proposition, nor ideal if you get caught in traffic. On balance I'll probably leave it as it is.
