I know somebody that has a 92 Escort Cosworth

it's in a bit of a state 90k + miles, running, just, it's been garaged for 5 years, he's had it 15, it's being put back on the road ready for sale, he thinks it's worth circa 24k

I thought that was optimistic given the condition and mileage but as fast fords are going nuts who knows

Guy came to see it on his way to see another car but didn't make an offer. Someone else coming today to see it but he's still not taken me up on me paying money into his account. Some sellers really don't know what they want to do!

That can only mean your offer wasn't high enough, what he isn't getting is sometimes the first offer is the best offer

He is probably seeing if he can get a better price with someone seeing it. If he doesn't get a sale he might come back to you unless of course you withdraw your offer.

Exactly, I've offered to make a 10% deposit without seeing it and I was the first caller. Clearly there is no such thing these days as someone getting in first or a gentleman's agreement and considering he has never sold a car privately before and doesn't know the market he's really trying hard to mess up the deal.

I could understand him not wanting to take a phone deposit if he was a dealer , that can be a world of pain with distance selling regulations , especially if you get them to deliver it without viewing it but a private sale, take the money

He has now come back to me saying that he will accept my first offer and added some more pics of the sunroof with rust, the bumpers misaligned and rear arches gone. I fear this might be too much for me to take on! Shame as it apparently drivers superbly!

That's why he wanted you to see it which is fair enough I suppose, but if the price is right a 2k respray is on offer in waterlooville

Sound decent enough...I read one sold through the CRX forum for 2k last year from 80 odd year old guy who sold too cheap to forum member. He did a couple of bits & sold for 5500 a few months later.

Sounds good enough to me at 1700 and plenty room for some work over time maybe even a respray at any point if it ever needed one.

Go for it
