Boss has asked me to go to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in the next week or 2. Is he:
A) Trying to get rid of me
B) Reducing the wages bill
C) Hoping I can negotiate a peace treaty
D) Getting me to help mop up afterwards
E) Having a laugh at my expense
F) Some or all of the above
:p

I'm struggling to see given the history who is in the right here.

Ukraine haven't done anything wrong, or attacked anyone. Russia on the other hand.......already invaded part of Ukraine 8 years ago. I think its easy to overcomplicate this stuff, but that's essentially what it comes down to.

Putin is not really worried about NATO, its simply a ruse to invade Ukraine, attempt to divide Europe and NATO and future proof his regime from possible Maidan like protests. Ukrainian and Russian people seem to have a bit of a shared affinity - Does Putin want his own people becoming jealous of a successful and prosperous Ukraine that's a member of the EU and NATO? Probs not. That's my opinion anyway, I have a passing interest in the subject.

Apparently the Russian War Plan has just been posted on WikiLeaks.

It kinda depends Gary. Do you fly Typhoons? If so, I might be able to have a word with your Squadron Leader.
If not. I think that you might be forgiven for questioning whether his motives are altogether honourable.
Given that your star sign is in decline just now. I'd be very careful where you put your feet. When near any borders.

I do fly Typhoons, but only when on the beer and talking to the ladies. I assume that's what you meant. ;)

This evening, Macron has called an emergency national security meeting with regard to Ukraine, he earlier spoke to the presidents of Russia and Ukraine plus the German chancellor. I think the word Invasion has eventually triggered something, and he is not sure which pictures to buy for various premises and public offices etc. The old ones, with A.H. on one side and W.C. on the other no longer cut the mustard.

He will be struggling to keep all the balls in his cascade.
Much wringing of hands.
At least it gives the perfect platform to mobilise that Euro Army they were so keen on.
Ah but that was when there was no “perceived” threat.....

They have nothing to do with this, been to 2 of them, nice places. Go.

If Putin decides to route a gas pipeline through them, don't go.

For what it's worth, I'm trying to understand both sides of this. I understand that there are many Ukrainians that still see themselves as Russian and are sympathetic to their heritage. Of course there is always the thorny issue of gas and the wealth associated and I think that part of the conflict is plain to see but I think questions should be asked of the West and the fact that Russia believes there is an agreement that Ukraine should not be able to join Nato. When Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons and allowed pipelines through it's territory, it put itself in a very precarious position.

And once again we should ask what this has to do with the USA. If ever there was a country that profits from destabilising others, it's them.

We have become too dependent on cheap gas from pipelines and stopped storing and producing our own, and the alternatives. Just ask Germany who import almost all their fuel in those pipelines as they closed nuclear power stations and have failed to get renewables up to volume fast enough. You'll notice they are being very quiet during this. Voters with no heating dosn't win elections.

If anything good comes of this moment it should be that mini nuclear power stations is the best method of creating energy, and that relying on others is only good while everyone is pals. Gas storage should never have been closed in the UK, and dare i say it, but considering using shale gas should be high on the agenda. We have no real need to be affected by any of this, but poor decisions form succesive governments mean that we are.

Now we'll go for the sanctions. Until we realise that they will they have no effect on Putin and his cartel of Russian Oliogarchs. Russia know that we will not force them out so like caravanners on a council car park, they will stay.

Maybe we should relegate Chelsea FC from the Premier League. Whilst we're at it, Arsenal too (Alisher Usmanov - 30% shareholder)...
