Actually I got it wrong - its £175 for a full refurb per wheel. That includes taking the wheel off, tyre off, stripping down the alloy, repairing it then oven baking, a full respray and polish of the entire wheel, tyre back on, wheel balance and then wheel back on car.

£80 is for a smart repair with wheel on but they say its fine but never perfect. That they can do that the same day. The £175 option is perfect and it effectively will be a brand new wheel but its takes 3 working days.

The dealer offers both services - my choice. And yes they outsource it to a place in Kent!

This is where mine is, Rags: http://www.wheelworxrefinishing.com. Full tyre-off, dip, strip, paint, bake etc re-furb for around £300 plus VAT (haggling available if you like) for all four. And it's where Lancaster send 'em. Lepsoms in Kent has a good reputation, too.

Not used anyone around here yet Rags, I need mine doing as that how I picked the car up but was leaving it until I'd done some research. I did post up a company, a while back, over in Essex that powder coated instead of the spray and lacquer but wanted to go and see the outfit first and see if they can match the colour.
Guys are poss right MD will just outsource down the road.
There are a couple of wheel refurb posts on here.

Im such a total moron! Feel like shooting myself! Got the car fully detailed and coated in Cquartz - the guy did an immaculate job and machine polished the whole thing and the car was looking unbelievable.........and then I kerbed both front alloys within two hours of picking the car up!! Totally gutted.

Anyone know of a good repairer in and around the Watford area or even a few miles from here? I need to get it sorted, its winding me up totally. I always do this within a few months of getting a new car and then Im fine for years! Why????

Have used these guys previously for my Audi - http://www.the-autowerks.com/

Good bunch of guys, even though it looks a bit like an 'under the arches' operation. I think the cost was about £80 per wheel, for a full strip, bake and recolour.

As a short term fix there's a thread somewhere that talked about using nail polish. If you fancy heading over to Boots and buying a pot of gloss black nail-polish, that is...

these guys dont look too bad Adam

They're good. Lancaster use them and they did one of mine for Nuvola before I took delivery. Naturally I kerbed it within weeks and went through all the same hand-wringing as Rags. *sigh*

I called around a few places and the cost for doing a "proper refurb" is about £85+VAT = £102 per wheel

So that's £204 for two wheels. On top of that some of them charge storage costs for your car if you do less than all four wheels at a time. For example Lepsons charge £50! I'm not really keen on removing the wheels myself, getting them picked up and leaving my car jacked up on my driveway for about a week. So storage included its costing me £254 all in.

Maranello quoted me £350 for both wheels fully refurbed and looking brand new. Is the extra £96 worth paying? At least I know my car will be stored with someone I know and who have tons of other high value cars in their workshop. If something goes wrong I can just throw it back at them. Plus they are 11 miles from me and are happy to collect and drop off the car. Some of these places in Colchester and Kent are 50 to 60 miles away. I'm not even factoring in petrol cost and the tough part of getting home once I drop the car and then go to collect.

I'm tending to try and get the dealer to do it for a bit less and just run with it.

Don't take this the wrong way but you are asking our opinion on spending £96 when you have just shelled out £90k+ on a new car? It's all how you value convenience. Your car will inevitably require some warranty issues within six months so why not wait until then?

The convenience factor is significant. The dealer must have load of fat in that quote and I would think that in the interests of not being seen to take the p1ss they should be willing to do a deal, but only if they have a corner of the workshop to keep your car in for a few days while your wheels get done.

Actually the point wasn't around the £96 but more that the dealers price isn't crazy compared to other repairers - there wer posts at the beginning of the thread saying the their quote was unreasonable. This is especially the case when you factor in the convenience factor and the fact that the MD is a known entity that I have a relationship with. Biggest issue for me mentally is leaving my car with someone I dont really know. Anyway its booked in.

Yes Adam thanks. The car will be stored in their workshop whilst the wheels are off.

Assuming the MD is using Lepsons then check out the prices directly on their website. I'm sure some of the cost is labour to remove and refit the wheels, plus possibly a bit for storage. At the MD's rates it may start to look reasonable. You'll be paying for convenience and trust. Worth a lot IMO.

Thanks all. I went with the main dealer for repair. Drove the car to Hampshire up and down small windy country roads and really put my foot down properly. Got followed all the way by a black coloured Mercedes SLS AMG and we had a lot of fun with him chasing me and actually keeping up :sad1: Need to hone my driving skills!!!

Anyway so in love with this car. Here is a pic of it in the evening light:

I think/hope Rags was being a little tongue in cheek!

I was. But I still should have had him lol! He waived at me as I finally took a right turn and he went straight on. It was a of fun and I had a laugh. Haven't bombed it like that in a while.

He may have the better power to weight ratio but I definately have the better looking car!!
