Hi Paul, been reading your posts with great interest as I'm kind of in the same situation as you, although not yet quite at the same stage.

Looking forward to finding out more about your dream machine, and your experiences as a QP owner.

Oh, and some pics :)

Well I thought that I should really update this thread with my new purchase.

After my initial post a few weeks ago Ewan kindly PM'd me and offered his lovely Quattroporte. Pretty hard to resist that car with the spec and history I wanted plus the added bonus of the Tubi exhaust!

2 days and 550 miles later the car is now safely back up in Aberdeen sitting with it's Italian cousin.

First impressions were great, very comfy on the long haul journeys and great out and about the open countryside roads in sport mode. I generally don't bother with manual mode as you can still override the up changes with a pull of the paddle when you want to and I let the car do the down changes by itself.

Twelve days of rain has meant I haven't had a chance to get some proper photos of the car yet but I have washed it every day so far... The joys of yet another black car.

To sum up, the family and myself are delighted with the QP V, long may it continue. The neighbors have taken to the car quite well already and I bet they're chuffed it's got a Tubi on it like the Gallardo! lol

I just love it .. as a fairly recent Newbie myself.. when another one comes along with the usual "I'm thinking of buying a Maserati......" opening, then loads of Forum members jump on the thread with the welcome....

It's a great start to Maserati ownership... but I'm starting to see the real motives of us all... whilst it might .. on the surface seem we are just a friendly bunch of enthusiasts ... in fact we are all selfishly seeking to re-live those first few days of ownership vicariously ... the days when you catch yourself giggling at the wheel when you're on the gas.. and the hours spent staring out of the window at it... even washing it is something to look forward to....

Thing is... for me at least.. those days just go on and on... never get bored of it... and it's a real joy to read a post like yours...and impossible to explain to anyone who's not tried one.... But now the rest of us are thinking ... Great ... He's got it...

Lovely car by the way ...

Gorgeous example, well done. You need to bring it down to the central belt in the spring to meet a few of other owners.

For me, the real reason why we all start with the "thinking of owning a Maserati" thread is to find a totally bias audience to sanity check our man maths. Everyone knows that buying an Italian thoroughbred could be clinically insane but we all seek to push that to one side when we first buy into the idea. Once the purchase has been made, we look to continually seek similar approvals as well as to contribute to the thought process of others who are at a different stage in the cycle.

If we admit it, there is always a more sensible, logical and reasonable choice than a Maserati (or most other cars for that matter) and so we need to ensure that we're comfortable with deliberately making a choice of the heart, not the head.

I have become so comfortable making illogical car choices that I am now seeking an addition to the GS in the form of a QP. I am struggling to find reasons why I need a QP ,so far I have dreamed up a scenario where I need a larger car for transporting the family on weekends away and ignored the fact that we have a large Volvo for doing this!

More ideas to help satisfy my imagination/man maths are welcome!

Ha Ha... of course the Volvo will do the job... it's just no-one wants to go in it.... A weekend away starts when you get in the car... not when you arrive...any opportunity for a decent trip and you're looking to find a way to use the GS... compromising passenger comfort and bare essentials for luggage..

and I'm exactly the same... had to take my son up to Uni recently in Durham... all his kit including a 6' Lacrosse pole.. and the Mrs... and her "just an overnight bag..".....Our Discovery the perfect vehicle for such a purpose... but no... crammed everything into the GT and caned it up the A1M....Brilliant...

Face it out run, a QP just makes sense...save the Volvo for troops to the dump...

Quite.

I have a 5-series touring. And a QP. Outrun my friend, Fangio has it spot on - it's about the journey too...

...quote from someone else, "Young man, Ferraris are for those who've arrived. Maseratis on the other hand, are for gentlemen who are going places".

Will that do? ;)

And Paul, welcome to the QP world - I'm sure a car from Ewan will be absolutely superb! Enjoy :)

I wondered when you were going to reveal this! I'm pleased to hear all is well - she's a beauty, and the Tubi certainly adds to the drama.

I suppose I should reveal the replacement in my garage.....

Another QP V.

Until they get round to building a better looking car, I'll be sticking with this model. But when the Alfieri is launched, then I may need to change.
