Recommendations and Warnings

Hi Guys, sorry about the delay i forget to look at the forum regularly.Basically it is my 08 Granturismo that i am talking about. It went to Graypaul birmingham for a warranty job on the auto wipers not working.First visit diagnosed a faulty stalk
which took 2 weeks to come, didn`t work.Took the car back they diagnosed a wiper ECU,not in stock.Took the car back and had it fitted, didn`t work.Third time lucky new motor fitted and that worked, this amounted to my car being at graypauls
for 5 weeks.
As i am a gluton for punishment i took the car in some time later with a cam variator noise which the warranty would not honour until it developed so i decided to proceed with the work anyway.Maserati were great and payed for all of the parts
including machining the end caps and i payed for the labour £1900 agreed with graypaul. Then the fun and games started again. The car came back to me with a strange noise from the front of the engine which Graypaul tried to say was unrelated. At this point i pointed out to them that i was actually an ex motor technician and i new what i was on about.Sure enough the new crank seal fitted on the engine front cover had twisted causing the noise.I then questioned whether they had done an oil and filter change as a matter of coarse with an engine job, they had not,so that was done. Two weeks later i notice the car has lost 1.5 litres of coolant.Took the car back again, they had damaged the top hose when removing it causing a small split, that was replaced. Then believe it or not a week later still losing coolant the bottom hose was the bloody same!!!!!That was replaced.
You are now wishing that you had not asked but i am not finished yet.Another 3 weeks on driving the car in France i start to get a strong smell of burning oil.Got the car home and checked the car out myself on my pals garage ramps and found
engine oil p-----ing out of the righthand rocker cover onto the manifold.Took the car back told them what i had found and left it with them.Turns out they had not located the rubber lugs of the gasket up with the recess on the top of the head resulting in an oil leak that was a potential fire hazard. The car is now fine.
I was never even offered a scrap of compensation.I did joke that it had cost me £150 in fuel taking the car backwards and forward but to no avail.
Maserati themselves did not really want to get involved as i can fully understand,it was not their fault.

P.S to top it all they refurbed an alloy while on one visit, rubbish didn`t even re lacquer the wheel just a dull paint finish.
Like i said stay away.

Its really hard to know what to say , i bet there extremely embarrassed by it all , but it does go to show that some main dealers clearly aren't what there cracked up to be , the apprentice will get the blame no doubt , but if he does whats he doing assembling an engine without the correct supervision , clearly the reason i prefer to stick to independants ,

Sympathies mate

Hum, fun and games, this dealers name has come up before and unfortunately, I have had personal experience of charging for parts that were never fitted.

The wheel refurb sounds like an aerosol quick repair to me.

Thanks for taking the time to reply in detail Lupogti. Not a good experience by any measure and you did exactly the right thing to take your findings to Maserati UK. Unless the dealer network is held to account, they will be able to continue with such shoddy practices. Little comfort I'm sure, but you've posted your experiences on a forum read by many, many Maserati owners in the UK, and given them the opportunity to make an informed choice and 'vote with their feet'.

I hope at least your car is now in fine fettle and rewarding you with that Maserati magic.

I would also echo the positive comments about Nareman and his company. My short advice would be DON'T be put off by the lack of showroom and DO get an independent inspection. Otherwise you can't really go wrong. If I were planning to upgrade to more recent model, I'd certainly call Nareman first.

So who do you recommend for the independent inspection and how much would that cost ?
I live in London .

Looking at a 4200 close to London, anybody know what the ballpark cost of an Indie inspection might be??

Hi Rob, depends if its brought to them and what you consider an full indie inspection....£200-£300 for a fulsome written report

I had a check done by Autofficina and it cost me nothing at all. They were clearly looking to build a relationship with a new customer and were happy to inspect the car for me at no charge. Of course they found a couple of bits to do on it which I then paid them to fix - but it wasn't a lot - and since then I've spent quite a bit on new clutch and various other little bits - all with them. So the free inspection worked well for both of us there. I don't know if this is something they always do though - and I'd actually bought the car already by the time I took it to them - the wrong way round perhaps, but I didn't want to wait and was pretty convinced that the supplying dealer (Nareman/Nuvola) and I would work out something reasonable should something particularly unexpected come up.

Cheers,
Ben.

Richard Grace Cars

Having driven Estates for about 40 years and as I am on the last roll of the dice, decided to get a Masser for a bit of fun. I can highly recommend Richard Grace Cars for the place to go. As a first time buyer I found him to be very informative and helpful, an intelligent negotiator, honest and reliable to deal with and a great after sales service.

No dogs of the canine variety are allowed in my 2005 Facelift 4200 GT Rosso.

Welcome. Saw the car you bought when I was at Dicky's a little while ago. Very similar to my 4200 - enjoy!

A warm welcome Elliott, hope you enjoy the car, it should be good if Dicky supplied it.

Hello all, i recently swapped the joys of TVR ownership for Maserati gransport ownership. Given TVR's financial woes my servicing has always been through an independent garage. Now i've moved to owning a maser, i'm faced with going for official dealer stamps or an indi- has anyone got an indication on the likely price difference between an indi and main dealer servicing? Also, can anyone recomend a London dealership for servicing- it seems on pistonheads
Paul coster at prestige auto care and nuvola in shepherds bush are worth trying- has anyone had good or bad expeiriences with either?

Cheers

Congrats on the new car!

Nuvola is a car seller, not servicing as far as I know. Auto care I have not heard of.

Try supercarhub.com for a raft of quotes for whatever it is you need.

I recently went to Maranello in Egham, being a main dealer the service was excellent and I was very happy dealing with them. They (as part of the Sytner Group) are also price matching specialist independants at the moment so you could get yourself a bargain.

There is a list of independants garages on the forum, have a search and try and find it.

In terms independants garages around London, the following are well regarded: Joe Macari (SW London), Bill McGrath (Herts), Grimaldi (Kent), Autofficina (Surrey).

Cheers
