I also assumed that but read somewhere that it uses the car antennae to reduce signal loss due to the phone being shoved in a glovebox etc. I could be wrong, of course.

OEM Android Auto / Carplay units (e.g. like the one I had in my Range Rover) do use the antenna, but I am not convinced this retrofit unit does as it just plugs into the audio and AV feed of the existing Maserati unit..
Losing GPS signal / low accuracy is something I've encountered even when just out and about on foot with the phone..

Well, that's good, because re-routing a GPS antenna or lead is a lot harder than an annoying iPhone that just forgets where it is. Next time it does it I'll see if the cars own nav system knows where it is.

Can't see how GPS running on your phone can use anything but the phones own GPS antenna. Not heard of any phone that will take a GPS antenna input somehow!
Unless there is some API where Car play has it's own GPS unit and it somehow sends the location data to the phone, overriding the phones own GPS?

Actually no, sorry I'm talking rubbish - I was thinking about the built-in internet (created a local hotspot in the car).. when my phone was connected to the Range Rover screen, it didn't use the antenna!

Coming September with capacitive touchscreen, HD backup camera with custom designed mount, bending lines and HDMI to the screen so best quality, full steering wheel controls.
I have the kit at work just need to find time to test fit it to my car and order it all.

It's a simple procedure. He uses a green and red sharpie on your eyeballs. Works for forward and reverse parking manoeuvres.

Yep I used a separate carplay unit which connected either wired or wireless to phone and used fm transmitter to Bose head. Worked well for minimal cost.
