Because somebody wants a four seater V8 GT car rather than a 2 seat mid-engined V8 sports car............possibly?

Yeah, I looked at a lot of more expensive cars before buying my GTS, ultimately wanted to be able to get the kids in the back in a pinch if needed so went with the GTS. The cars are not comparable in that respect obviously. Will get something 2 seat perhaps in 5 years when the oldest goes to uni.

Well I am knackered with my 2 seater Strad then, what a stupid purchase that was!

A guaranteed fail. Seriously though it's ironic that the GranTurismo that is likely to do best long term value wise is the one that was built by binning the car's main purpose, ie to be a fast GT that can carry 4 people.

On another matter I was driving mine yesterday and got stuck in a traffic jam on the Tay Road bridge - I have forgotten how much attention these cars' create.

Also I noticed that the new nav controls knob thing is where the ashtray was. I would not confess to having used this for anything more than sweetie wrappers on the go but it looks like twiddling the knob with the gearbox in Drive won't be easy........

I get that but it's dated and really not worth the 100k when you can buy so many other cars which feel much newer for a similar price.

You have to really want the 4 seats to buy one now, however, the other cars being talked about are all used and you will tend to lose a lot less with a used car. I'm personally not a fan of mid engined cars and always want a coupe with a big engine up front. The risk as I see it is that Maserati balls up the replacement and fail to make it a genuine 4 seater then it's ciao for me.

I don't think that's really the entirety of the equation, I genuinely struggled to find anything else vaguely exotic that could carry 4 reasonably and was quickish. The German's struggle for both legroom and appeal imo and I didn't really want to spend much more than 100k for something that will carry kids. For me the GTS was the no brainer choice.

Im quite disspointed by this facelift. Dont really care about the modifications just that they even bothered to facelift such an old model. Sales will still be cr@p. Time and money could have been spent in a better way.

Its becoming quite clear that 1. Maserati isn't getting the investment it requires from Fiat or at least it has been scaled back significantly from all the BS rhetoric that was flying around 2 or 3 years ago or less and

2. the Granturismo may well be the last of their great cars. The cars they are coming out with are just BMW bashers and poor ones at that. The Ghibli is pretty crud and the Levante looked dated even before it came out plus they could not make it look more Japanese even if they wanted to.

Sorry for the rant. I couldn't be more gutted. Cant help but feel this company is toast from a prestige perspective. I shouldnt have sold my GTS - nothing better is going to come out anytime soon.

Almost read my mind - agree with you. The Ghibli imo was the beginning
Of the end in my opinion. Couldn't they have stuck with prestige sports cars that are rare on the road?

Tend to agree...A used GT is a great buy but a new one not so these days. Still a great looking car though....

Saw it with my own eyes today at Goodwood, it's better in the metal than the photos. Still an achingly pretty car. I thought the Gran Cabrio looked fantastic.

Yep. Once that brand devalues, buyers of Ghiblis and Levantes will see them for what they are. Plenty of better cars out there than both of them.

Current sales are just propped up by people wanting to "own a new Maz" for £50k. Its a nice pitch isn't it: "I own a Maserati". Sounds cool. But how long with that last? My neighbour owns a Ghibli and now the gloss has worn off (in year 2 of ownership) he thinks its pants.

Release a wow car please. Otherwise the rest will go to dust pretty quickly as its simply not that good.

^^ unfortunately you make a lot of sense, indeed, maybe that's why I bought one?

Has any one seen the way this guy, quite justifiably in 95% of his arguments, trashes the Ghibli? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOZnqnB6xDo

It's quite a painful watch, but one part I enjoyed, was when he pulled out of a junction and somebody gave him the "nice car dude" look, and he managed a smile on his face. I think that special moment may be the reason we persevere with this strange brand.

Its hard to understand why Maserati does not capitalize on that by releasing something worthwhile.

If he could pronounce Ghibli properly then I would not have wanted to put a hammer through my laptop quite as much.

My rental this week was rather down market and I ended up with a Mondeo but some posh Vingal version.

Strangely it has an almost identical grill to the new GT.

I was at York races yesterday with some ex colleagues and freinds. One of them said his mate bought a Ghibli and considers it his worst decision ever!!!
Diesel mind.

That is a shame to hear, I have driven several Ghibli diesels and have found them fine - there are certainly many worse cars available and the auto gearbox is excellent too
