I'm really sorry to hear about this mark but normal compression is a good sign so hopefully you're through the worst

£1200 would sound about right then.

Yes, I would have thought so. And I think it's a sensible precaution to take even if you hadn't of needed to replace them. They are better made, newer, give higher performance and even cleaner emissions with the added benefit of the improved soundtrack of course

Mine will be even louder then! Lol!

Good to read its not the issue you feared...but why are they providing undiagnosed guesses?...surely you want to know what is and what has been discounted rather than it might be this oh hang on its not well it may be that...enough to make you turn gray.

Peter. I asked Matthew to let me know as soon as he knew something. Which he did to say that I don't need a new engine.
He's now got to find out what the issue is.

I imagine he's done some work today to try and clear the huge amount of work he has.
Probably figured mine would be a quick job, expecting it to have no compression.

Agree.
So as it stands, they might actually be nothing wrong with the cats at all, it might be an electrical problem.

Just give it to Marios for a secondary decat delete section to replace existing squashed pipe. Probably about half the cost of the Larini's.

I had mine done at some time as rear box delete with replacement straight through rear sections. About £1200 for all of it from memory which I think is pretty good. Still have the original secondary CAT sections & rear boxes if I ever want to put them back to stock.

are there any MOT or emmisions problems with removing CATs like there are with DPFs on diesels

Not on mine there wasn't. Flew through its MOT on just primary CATS and no rear boxes. Just primary CATS & the standard silenced x-pipe centre section in place. No CEL's either as original Lambda sensor's are pre & post primary CATS.

Just spoke to Matthew at Giallo.

The problem was the cat on the drivers side has completely been destroyed, and it's blocked the exhaust.
The fix. New Larini cat's! :D

So they will be going on when they come in, which will be a week or two.

Apparently I was fortunate that reving the engine as we were at Brooklands, blows the **** backwards when they're failing so it reduces the chance of any being sucked back.
Which can happen if you just switch off the engine after a drive.

In summary it will cost about £2,500 which is a fair bit cheaper than a new engine.

And she'll also go like a stink. And be a lot louder. :D

Indeed. Matthew will also be taking the rest of the exhaust system apart to make sure any residue is removed.
And I have new spark plugs as the old ones were apparently knackered.

Can't wait to have her back. Especially as the weekend just gone would have been perfect for a blast in her.

Recommend the Iridium spark plugs Mark, I swear the engine revs more freely with them (quicker pick up from idle).
