Just had the good news that the engine is all apart now.

Time to spend some money and order parts, anyone going to the states soon ? Only joking as I'll try to get my friend to send th items over. Not going to pay any more to the tax man than I have to! Will try McGraths just in case they will do a reasonable price match.

Looks like we are going oversize pistons (only .5mm) as there is one liner that's had some damage due to the head gasket leaking. If it doesn't machine out then one liner to be added to the list of items. At least it will edge closer to the 5litre mark, which is where this engine started life out as when designed by Alfieri.

Crank is in fine fettle, only a light polish so standard shells. Machine should be limited to Liners, skim on heads. Heads being pressure tested as unsure what caused low compression readings on #2 and #7(Not broken rings or scored bores). Possible valve seating problem, hopefully only a lapping in job, worst case a new valve or two.

I'll try and visit to get more pics soon.

Ta Andrea,

Well as the engine is all apart in the Khamsin fraid it will have to be the 4200. Was hoping the Khamsin was back together before the end of the year and run in, but these things can't be rushed. Plus it's not been apart for 30 years so it's given the guys a few challenges.

So fingers crossed it's out next year at a few events. Hoping to make it to the Khamsin meet (somewhere in France TBA) in 2012 as it will be the
40th aniversary of it's launch. Jeez that's almost as old as me !

P are you still gonna be in Brum around the 16th Oct for that Villa game ? Let me know I'll PM you my number and if I'm about I can try to hook up with you, even if only for a beer.

Hi Bal, I'll be in NY before the end of the year. Probably late November / first half of December. If the bit's fit in my case, I'll happily be your pony.

Thanks for the offer Em.

I'm trying to work something out with my mate in the States where he fedex's the package to me with an appropriate customs declaration so that I don't get stung. Hopefully get the items over here in less than 2 weeks and anything else go to McGraths if need be. I know the latter don't do oversize pistons as a rule so rather than messa round getting bits from here & there I'll get from one place.

Looking at $5K at the moment so a sizable chunk.

I'll keep you posted.

Found out why we had poor compression on cylinders 2 & 7. Damaged/worn exhaust guides on those bores, which is good as we now understand the cause as the bores themselves didn't look as bad as first thought.

So replacement exhaust guides to add to the list of parts.......

I'll get some pictures soon.

Hi Loz,

It's not being done at McGraths but Migliore (Vic & Kevin) in Bromsgrove. Hence all of the hunting for parts etc. Though it's looking more like me getting them from the States due to the prices.

The guys were supposed to be taking regular photos, though I haven't checked recently. Having said that I've been going down and taking my own anyway so will be well covered.

Bal just an idea , could be worth emailing Bigfoot( maurizio) he's now been relocated back to Italy , im sure he would take pleasure in locating some parts and negotiating a good price , he's a classic enthusiast im sure he would oblige and be happy to do so, feel free to mention it was my suggestion

Loz,

Not a bad idea. I'll keep it as a backup as I'm fairly well down the line with MIE and McGraths. Just need to confirm with Kev the list I've drawn up and I'm gonna put in the order(s) this coming week. Hopefully in a couple of weeks the items will be with me, at which stage the machining can begin. Shouldn't be too long after that that it can come together.

I've got a few folk to chase up, guy repainting the bonnet, my friend who's cutting off some smog control pipes from the manifolds so that I got a cleaner breathing car. Be out of work in 2 weeks time so I can concentrate on getting it all together.

Yeah Loz, never a good thing to be out of work. But this is teh life of a contractor and coming out of contract near the end of October is not ideal. Trying to find new work at this time of year will not be easy, so perfect time to concentrate on the car. Plus I've been on this contract for 13 months without a break so I'm completely burned out.

Climate may prove difficult to get new employment, but let's see what comes up. Plus I do want the car sorted out this year if possible.
