Loudest exhaust?

That doesn't sound right to me. Why would exhaust manufacturers make (and openly advertise) items that were illegal and likely to land them with fines?

Indeed. There are plenty of bike exhausts which are not for road use, but I fail to see how the fitter can be liable.

Most are stamped "Not for road use with baffle removed" or something similar
Mine doesn't say anything, so I leave it on for the MoT, never had it tested but it would be too loud for Brands trackday, so I have been told and its only a 750

Indeed, they are so marked. Sounds like a very sensible ensemble you have there. My Speed Triple had a titanium pipe on it. Great fun as the car alarms went off :)

Never heard a GSXR-750 being called sensible.........!
The answer must be then do not have your exhaust engraved with the words "Not for road use"

As this would no doubt cost extra - I didn't bother

Brilliant my friend. A big thank you Mark as your pain still raised a shed load of money.

Sudden clutch failure suspected Phil; unable to get any gears part way round a lap!

Coming from a 100cell sport catted RS4, today I contacted the guy who built the exhaust for me. I wanted free flowing, louder and more power but he refused to work on the car. He has heard of £5000 fines for those who have carried out work on cars registered post 2001. A VOSPA inspection of the books and all **** breaks loose. He is waiting for the likes of Milltek etc to be hit in the future.
So where does that leave me??? Any hints for north easterners please?

I think he is getting a little confused. They have jumped on the DPF being removed on diesel cars that had them fitted as standard are now an instant fail if they have been removed. There are ways round it as always. They also implied it was an offence for a garage to remove them.

Cats can still be removed or replaced with alternatives as long as the car passes the emissions test. Although there have been murmurs they will at some point apply the same rule as DPF's to cars that should have a CAT as standard. Most cars after about 1992 or there abouts.

Results of yesterday's rev off:
1. MAF 128.8db
2. FC 122.8db
3. Contigo 122.3db
The yellow banana was a clear winner, but can either Benny, Stuart, Matt, Martin or Mark de-throne our current champion? We'll see at Brands Hatch for sure?
I'd say ASBO status is above 120 db and it is an incredibly noisy club - my ears are still ringing! It was also interesting to see both the x and aiiiitttcccchhhh pipes being so evenly matched; different tones but similar volumes, though FC will dine out on the result for years to come!! Overall, I'd say the biggest difference appears to be the lack of CATs on MAF's car - this seems to be the key to true hooligan status??
Just for reference, Mr Pea's 4200 was 110db and Adrian's Aston N430 managed 119db and readings were taken at max revs 1m from the exhaust (horizontal and vertical)

Sorry I missed the actual testing too - could you take readings at 75% rpm, same standard distances etc next time too please, then we can have a reference for which cars can be used on some track days where the limits are a bit tight.

They were at 75%, as ours are limited to 5.5k rpm in Neutral. MAF did 126dB at 6k rpm too. I think all the cars in SPORT mode would fall all UK track limits.

Good call - we'll try that at Brands.

We did try MAF's in angry mode and even at 6k rpm was at approx 120 (118 - 126)db!! As Phil says, I expect most would fail current track limits.
