Loudest exhaust?

Will get my cats sorted for the next go. As I said, was definitely quieter today than before they got bashed yesterday.

The go slow light keeps making me think the missus is in the car!

Round 2 of the hooligan-off and MAF's busted banana is still the undisputed champ!! However, there are three new members of the ASBO club (120db+), Contigo's GTS found a new lease of life, Matt's GS got close to MAF (only 1.1 db in it) and was pushed by the Lilac Love Machine and Mark's crazy 4200. Results at 1m from the exhaust:

Conaero 127.7
Mr Capes 126.7
Spart 125.2
Contigo 125.1
Richard 119.0
RSM Maser118.6
Beau 115.2
EB 113.0
BruceyB 110.0
Mav 107.6 - is it on yet?.....aiiittcchh pipe needed!
Dem 69.0 - last night apparently (headboard knocking!)

Amateurs, the lot of you! Phil's increased volume is probably a result of ambient noise. Mine was tested in a very quiet place away from the track last week. I wonder if it could go over 130db under the same conditions. Phil needs to hand the silver trophy to Matt!

All hail the banana!!

It's on the day, all same conditions and most were louder. I keep the Silver award as that was at Brunty, Matt should have come! :D

Yeah, but only 'cos I'd gone home.

Surely the more important test would be to see which of our various exhaust notes is deemed most sexy by a panel of womans. If anyone knows a number of womans which could be mobilised for this important piece of research please rustle 'em up and we'll test not for outright volume but for aural sexiness.

I'm sure we could do that with any pool of womens but it would have to be a blind test to make it truly about the audio dampening...!

Are you suggesting these ladies conduct an aural test or an Oral test ! :)

I couldn't possibly comment! Suggest the question is posed orally to provide the opportunity for helpful misinterpretation. I'll ask Mrs Crud now. In all likelihood I'll be back soon with a black eye.

Fancy loosing to the Lilac F4g Mobile. Hang your head in shame Phil

Once it's remapped to rev to 7k in Neutral we will retest. It's so limited at 5.5k at the moment it's unreal. Anyway all down to preference and I think mine is the best tone of all the cars :D

Yep we'll get chance at the next ACE meet or wherever. I think we can safely say they are all ASBO loud.

I think we need more technical prowess
The act of pointing a db meter vaguely in the direction at approx 45 degrees, somewhere in the middle of the two (or 4) exit pipes needs to be addressed
I was thinking along the lines of an alignment contraption device to eliminate errors

I only want 1.4 db from mine so will consider shortening the exhaust as my tail pipes extend more than Richards, giving him a 0.4db advantage

Needs to be to the side of the car, not in the middle. The tracks use a 0.5m stick, crudely taped to the meter to get the same distance for each car. It's all very hi-tech :D
Buying a bacon buttie for the lad doing the checks can affect the reading surprisingly well in your favour, if it's close to the limit ;)

There's also the possibility of augmenting the noise, as per the latest generation of Masers (and others). Basically playing the exhaust note through a speaker - could be a winner, Russian Olympic steroid style... :D

Exhaust mod pounds per decibel rating :

Spartacus £170 and 125 Db = £1.36 per decibel
Maf £6000 and 129 Db = £46 per decibel

But the winner on the day actually is keeping very quiet with over 130dB. That sounded lovely!
