Epic move!!! Well done! You really don't keep your cars long! Let me know what you think of your 458 and let me know when you sell!

It's a wonderfully first world problem, and you're spot on, Mark. I came within a gnat's whisker of a GT3 recently, which was hilarious and insane but in so many ways nothing like as good as the GTS in "normal" use, and with less charisma, plus Mrs Crud mandates four seats for another year or so. The 599 is now climbing in price and is frequently more expensive than an FF (FFS!) and, frankly, quite old technology and high running costs (plus the seat "issue"). The Stradale is too much the same as the GTS. Sure, it might handle better and have a nice party frock but when I see it on the drive it would look just the same.

The new McLaren Sports Series looks good, and FFs are still coming down. Money no object I'd have an F12. When two seats is good, anyway.

Sounds to me like you just need to add another car to the fleet rather than rationalise what you have. I don't think I'd ever bother with having more than one of the same type of car as I'd have favourites. I'd prefer a fleet that all do different jobs so they all get used - like Phil's collection mostly, where he uses his MX5 for mobile hairdressing appointments.

Beautiful trade to a lovely car.
I have been looking for over 7 months and was really tempted by your car as you know - it was a great example , well looked after and would have been an amazing buy for anyone.

I am close to taking the plunge on a 2012 Black on Black with MC Sportline Carbon Pack (MC Shift) - I have realised that I couldn't escape my carbon fetish...
I considered buying elsewhere and dipping but Richard G (who I would trust in heartbeat if he had the right car for me) said it probably wash't a good idea to remove interior parts and then dip them.

MCS - please post a video when you get chance of the pickup and sound...

If I bought a 458 my wife would divorce me!

Good luck Iain, your budget seems to be increasing every day - may as well get yourself a nice F430 ;-)

Congrats on the upgrade, that's quite a step. Having looked at alternatives to the GS and GTS there's really very little within sensible/affordable realms to warrant a change. Fast Germans including Porsches just don't do it for me and they're the only cars under £100k outside of Astons (also not my thing) that are remotely close to everything a Maserati delivers. The next league is Ferrari 458s, 599s and although I love the look of the 458 I still struggle with the noise they make. I know nothing of McLarens (can't afford one), so would next hanker as I do for a Huracan. At £180k used is that really twice a Ferrari, 3 times a GTS or 4 times my GranSport?

I agree 100% - Is my new car worth 3 of my old - nope, don't think so but when I walked in to Dick Lovetts and saw the Black 458 my heart ruled my head and it had to be done with the deal I was offered (end of month targets etc!) :)

Congrats major upgrade ! Your Maserati did look stunning and basically was the same as a Dealer offer with the warranty etc , but when Dealers are not selling them at £45k the perception is a Private car should be cheaper as no Dealer mark up.
But if you got a good Price on the Ferrari then Happy Days !

My best friend bought a new 911 last year £80k why he did not buy a used Ferrari I do not know he has done a 1500 miles in 10 months and will shed money for first 3 years Ferraris seem to level out and rise quite young .
ENJOY :)

Thanks mate :) I hear you - a potential buyer always seeks a bargain from a private seller even if his car is way better than anything a dealer can offer. Mine had a 14 month warranty, a fresh 6th year service at Maserati Colchester, new tyres, new brakes, a new clutch, new battery, new steering wheel, new interior buttons and was paint corrected at a cost of over £500 so there was seriously nothing like it anywhere! I think Nareman at Nuvola has now bought the car from Dick Lovett as he has it advertised so if anyone wants it they can now have it for £47,995 rather than the £44k I was seeking :)

What a shame........:frusty6:

Interesting experience!

Can you give an idea as to what brake costs proved to be? I'm getting close, just dipped below 5mm on pad depth both ends.

I did ponder but in the end thought I'd keep em OEM.

Did you get the brakes changed at a dealer? Or did you source the parts yourself?

As for your Ferrari...very jealous. Maybe one day when my daughter has grown up.

OEM parts fitted at Giallo in Kent. Do it whilst your daughters are young - mine 14 and 10 are more excited than I am!
