I have addressed the points raised Nigw and has altered the description to let the buyer decide on what constitutes a full service history.
NigW there was a lot more wrong with the car than just the service history and i have paid twice what the dealer refunded in costs to put everything else right.
The problem is this: the car has been serviced too early on all its major services and thats what threw up the confusion and carrs did what we all thought was the 31,500 mile service but in essence they have again done the 43,000 miler well in advance and this is why they stamped the "wrong" page of the service book(correct me if i am wrong).
Car was supplied byy Maranello to Carrs exeter 09/09/2003 as MY04.
08/04/2004 4259 miles Marenello major 6000 mls service in advance.
11/05/2005 15314 miles Tallecreast major 18500 mls service in advance
28/12/2006 20470 miles Deutche Marques LTD Major 31,000 mls service in advance.
02/06/2009 32780 miles Lancasters of colechester annual service and inspection Clutch, spigot and thrust replacement
10/05/2010 35362 miles Dealership who suplied to me annual oil change and filters.
03/06/2010 36454 miles Carrs exeter major 43,500 mls service well in advance.
Its a beautiful car and if its going to be an "issue" then i will keep it forever.
Maybe its as bad to do the servicing too early.... as it is to do it too late .....or even not at all?
can we penalise the owners for doing the servicing in advance of its due milages?
Interesting question i guess

I don't think any owner would be 'penalised' for servicing too early, as the service intervals are set up to cover either 12 month OR mileage related servicing, whichever comes earliest.

That's not as bad - I thought you'd said that Lancasters just did a clutch and a health check, but if they did a service too then that plugs a bit of a gap. If you haven't already, it would be worth getting the garages to stamp up the book where the stamps are currently missing. It's been serviced well on miles, and you can provide details to any prospective owner. Also good to have the Carrs clean bill of health.

Who are Tallecreast?

Already stamped up good and proper.so fairly well serviced now i guess.
The guy that commisioned lancasters basically said whetever needs to be done do it,That was service (book was stamped at the time) and clutch -spigot and thrust bearings and a few other bits.
No lancasters did a fairly complex job on the car.
Please bear in mind though that on first contact they denied ever having done a thing to the car but i got them to dig deep and eventually the truth emerged.
........I dont know why these dealers are so quick to say nothing was done...becasue i react to that and then after a bit of investigation on there part they say..."well actually yes we did have that car in and it had a load of stuff done"
I spoke to the owner of the car then.
(after i tracked him down) Lancasters supplied a breakdown of parts and labour.
Tallecreast were known by Carrs and they were happy with them.

Apparently this is a data protection issue...ie won't release details of work done to a previous owners car unless they have his express written permission...................?!

The way of the world...good you've put lots of more "meat on the bones" of your car!!!!!

Wow Adam, less than six weeks from a bag of cr@p with legal implications to a fully stamped peach! If I didn't know the details I'd have said it was implausibly impressive.

Not sure why this has elicited this reaction from you..are you saying i should have taken longer to sort this car?.i have spent a great deal of money and time on this car over the last couple of months.
I am more than happy to foot the bill for an independant inspection for any genuine buyer.
I will let Emblem decide if what i and maserati have done makes the car a decent purchase.
as the only advisorys was slight play in the rear arms (no fix needed yet) and a heat cracked front disk, there cant be a lot wrong with it ..or can there?

Please do read the extensive list of things i have had to splash out on to get the car to its current state(which i really shouldn`t have had to do from purchase ...or should I?) .
also the "improvements" i have done that dont have any bearing on the cars original condition.
If it was your £24k maybe you would have seen it differently? who knows... but this sort of attack it not really productive and i would think you were better than that.

P.S its still not perfect but its a lot better than when i recieved it, but then its also about £4500 more to add to the original costs

Adam, just to give you an idea on price was with my car dealer friend today and this is what a 60k miles 53 2004 Spyder books at....He did say these cars are hard to value as they are worth what someone is willing to pay...The best examples go for more where as ropy ones no matter how cheap will struggle to sell. With your mileage then you can expect a little more.

Franchised Dealer £22,995
Independent Dealer £21,125
Private Good £19,070
Private Poor £15,785
Part Exchange £17,015

Part exchange against brand new Bugatti Veyron .............£30,000 :)

Be careful with that one Adam as the price you jave the car up for is for a perfect car..You are right at the top end of the market.

Well it could do with the drivers seat entry point touched a little and the silver trim on the 2 side vents is comming off and a couple of small stone chips have appeared on the bumper.
Its strange that i could not find a 2003/4 car with glass rear screen advertised for less than £24k when looking a short while ago but i guess your probably right,I really overpayed in the first place and lost loads of money in sorting the car...sounds about right for me.
Maybe its better i just sell up and stop losing money on high end cars.
Lost a fair bit on the mercedes and even more on this one so there is a loud indication of a prevailing trend there if i care to really see it.
Thankyou all for all the assistance you have offered and all the support in the past.I am more than grateful.
Your a good bunch of owners and enthusiasts and i wish you all the very best in everything and anything you do.

Hi Adam

Don't take offence from what anyone says on here.

We are all very pasionate a about Maserati and understand the trials of ownership. It is just a bit unsual for somone to come on board who is proactive on the forum, seems very focused on resolving issues with their new pride and joy, only to jump out of it once they have gone through all the expence and work.

As Peter says, nobody is having a go, so don't sulk ;)

The advice is probably focussed on the fact that you're looking for top money, after slating the car and the dealer so mercilessly! One of the flipsides of putting so much of your deliberations on an open forum! I still don't think you should lose out too much given such short ownership.....so, you paid £20k but got £3.5k back (via cheque to Carrs) so you essentially paid £16.5k which gives some cushioning to the amount you've had to spend on getting everything to your standards. Plus, after your investigative calls etc it seems that the history and clutch side of things were better than you thought. All things considered it doesn't seem too bad....... you have a nice looking car to enjoy or sell. If you sell so quickly after buying from a dealer (any dealer) you're bound to get a bit stung on resale, though if your heart is set on another car then there's not much you can do about it!

I agree with you that we are all passionate about Maserati. But in Adams 1st posting of this thread he tells us that he want to change to a GS.
I think it comendable that adam has spent that much time ,money and passion on the marque. I imagine he will do the same with his next maserati. I saw his spyder at auto italia, I will look forward to hear what GS he buys & what work he will be doing on it.

Adam, I wish you luck and hope you find the right GS for you.

Hi Rob I am aware of that and in no way am I having a dig at Adam just trying to state why one (not me) may be slightly surprised at his change of plan.
