Well well well. The old show/crew had been running for so long it needed a refresh regardless. I enjoyed some of the old shows but 50% ended up being what JC/RB/JM wanted to do & selfishly enjoyed. Started to not be bothered if I watched it or missed it. Prior to that I was always eager to get in front of the box.

So much anticipation with the new show....and....oh dear what a let down! Love Chris Harris and et al & most Evo boys & the like. Love watching Chris Harris videos on the net. Chris Evans....donkey...trying too hard...not natural/organic & tryin to be like JC.

I'll give them a few episodes to improve as to be fair the old guard were doing it for many many years. Not sure I can stand Chris Evans much longer though...they are losing me from tuning into R2 because he is getting tiresome. Can't see how he will help the Top Gear show long term.

Can't stand Sabine Schmidt but Matt Le Blanc was alright and did OK. Wouldn't mind watching him.

They should have forgot the old show. New studio, new track, new format, new people.....all new. Had nothing to lose & would have been nice & fresh.

5th Gear is not perfect by any stretch but much more watcheable most of the time. Can't stand Vicki Butler-Henderson though so better without her.

My view is watching as a car enthusiast wanting to watch a program about cars. I don't want it to be too much about non car entertainment but we all want different things I guess.

Huge dissapointment for me.

It was always going to get a lot of viewers, there's barely a car show on terrestrial TV any more, you can't tell how well it went from how many watched it

Of course the first episode will get lots of views. People are still going to watch it to see what is like before deciding it is not worth watching.

The proof will be whether it sustains the number of views over the series.

I suspect the big loss they would be worried about is the international market, keeping them onboard (at least initially) probably ment they had to pitch a similar product.

I fully expect the format to evolve (especially if they are keeping an eye on the media) having an established product / following will make it a slower process.

We wouldn't expect maserati to decide the range is tired and therefore time for a revamp and start building motorbikes, 3 wheelers and a lotus 7 competitor for the true enthusiast.

Watched it last night with the family and I'm going to buck the trend. I enjoyed it...Thought MLB was good and we never got bored throughout....I think the issue with most is that lots do not like Chris Evans so he was on a downer before anyone had even seen it and if you don't like him them it will never be for you. I think MLB could probably do a good job on his own. They need to make it their own though ... So when the Stig came on they said the Clarkson bits which they need to stop. I think I was expecting this to be the worse programme ever after reading everyone's thoughts so I was probably surprised we all liked it. I think it will improve over time......Dan my eldest preferred it to the old team as he said that was getting tired and he preferred MLB to Clarkson.......We will continue to watch and no doubt enjoy.

Very surprised Andy but each to their own.

I will be giving it another go as I am sure many others will too.

Indeed, I think the presenters need to be given the chance to bed in - they all would have bee very nervous for the first show knowing that their was such a loyal following for the show before which most people didn't want to be messed around with so they would have felt they were on a hiding to nothing.

Personally, I had given up on the Clarkson TG many years ago and thought this new version was 'ok' and will certainly watch it some more and see how it goes, but it's not like it's the only car programme on TV right now whereas ten years ago, it pretty much was

It could be better no doubt but not as bad as I thought it was going to be.....I believe that if Chris Evans wasn't on there people may warm more to it...........

Agree with a lot of what you say Andy, personally I think the presenters in the extra bit are better options.

As long as there are fast cars to look at it will be worth a watch and tonight it's the Mclaren long tail I believe.

tonights was a lot better, more purpose to the VTs and less chris evans shouting. Ill watch the extra bit later on. Why is chris harris not on the main show? His net videos are very good.

I never liked it......Mclaren was great but again not much of a car show

Was the Clarkson ones really car show though Dem....I suppose these are no different......

I think it will take time for the presenters to have that personal relationship that you saw with the Clarkson three...That takes time.....Thought it was OK again. Enjoyed the Mclaren piece and rather like that Jaguar F Pace. Still think MLB is very good.

It was marginally better but being a fan of CE why is he irritating me so much?

Well well last night's one really surprised me & I really enjoyed it. Still don't like CE but MLB is pretty cool & gives something different.

Couldn't really fault the show last night & was much better than the last lot that I had become bored of.

Pleasantly surprised.
