Sounds like my best route would be to hire one on a 3 month and when I am bored of it, hand it back....itch scratched for minimal outlay.

Matt if you're thinking about a TR7 then why not go the whole hog and get yourself an All Aggro....

My mate had one when we were 17 - the square steering wheel used to flex and bend when he was driving - BL at it's best...

Haha! Cruel man Simon. When I see the TR7 it just reminds me of the rusty sheds my mates had back then, one was yellow, but mostly rust, the other was black I think, but was usually broken. I count myself lucky as I had a Lotus Europa :)

They rust, they did in the day and they still do - especially the rear suspension points. They are claustrophobic inside and in standard trim couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding - that's the negative.

My mates dad hill climbs one with a tweaked 4.6 V8 unit, it is fecking quick and handles OK. The standard 2.0 engine is an 8V version of the Dolly Sprint engine and a quick switch to the 16V head makes a lot of difference. The chassis is OK, they understeer as standard but that little more power makes the back end move around a bit which can be fun.

Not sure I would but one but if you must they are simple enough, but why are you thinking like this when you have a very similar small coupe in your garage. The Opel is rarer, better build and much prettier than the TR, OK the engine is based on an old diesel unit but it is rock solid and nearly unbreakable. Fix what you have leave the TR7 for those who know no better.

I like them and always have. Always quite fancied doing a v8 conversion but have been told that the 16v route gives a nice balance.

Seems the TR7 gets similar ridicule as Maseratis!

Probably worth getting one then ......

Ha, the All Agro... My father in law had an auto one and they live on a hill < 1:12 and it genuinely couldn't get up the hill he always had to start off down the hill! and yes his rear wheel and strut did fall off, just 300 yards from home!!!

just reading this reminds me my pal's All Aggro had some incident with the suspension collapsing if I remember correctly - it was 1985/6 so my memory isn't great. I also remember it looked as if the back had been jacked up - not sure what this was all about - but it was a horrendous car and made my Capri Ghia look great!! :thumb1:

I appreciate that Andy but as my initial post says, I promised myself as an 8 year old to one day buy one.

I have seen this and for £1500 (I recon) is a cheap way to scratch an itch and if I like it, I can update to an TR8 for about a grand:

After doing a lot of research, the early cars (1974-77) were built in Speke, Liverpool in the middle of industrial action, hence the bad build quality and dreadful reputation. It then moved to Coventry where things improved massively, then finally, the V8's were added and now built by Land Rover in Solihul where the build quality got even better but just as the car became a viable motor, they ended production as the damage was already done.

That one looks okay, and not a lot of money, less than a full Maserati larini exhaust system!
Forgot about the huge rubber bumpers for the US market!
I know what you mean about fulfilling a dream, I always wanted a Jeep Wrangler after seeing an import as a kid before they where sold in the UK, and I bought one in the late 90's, to satisfy the itch, a 4lt Limited, lovely dark green, gold wheels, and soft tan leather!

EDIT: I'm off to Pistonheads quite fancy another for the winter now!
