That one looks okay, and not a lot of money, less than a full Maserati larini exhaust system!
Forgot about the huge rubber bumpers for the US market!
I know what you mean about fulfilling a dream, I always wanted a Jeep Wrangler after seeing an import as a kid before they where sold in the UK, and I bought one in the late 90's, to satisfy the itch, a 4lt Limited, lovely dark green, gold wheels, and soft tan leather!

About the same as a CC clutch replacement!

Looks like a good one although I would prefer without the spoiler - just gives cleaner lines - not that it would stop me if it were the right car on other respects. As for the v8 conversion that would be cool but it is worth looking at the other options and it is not always purely abut power, well maybe.

A 16v sprint head and twin carbs is a good interim upgrade without having to change loads of other parts.

Go for it Matt...you only live once and I have spent more on a Major service. Of course its handling will be way off pace for todays market but you vet smiles of fun traveling at the legal limits and not loose a penny in depreciation.

I promised myself as an 8 year old I'd have nothing to do with girls.

Boy did I change my mind ;)

As a child these were my favourite toys which I told myself I would have one day

One is American and the other is floating into the stratosphere, so doubt either will come my way in the real world although I do have both the models in their original boxes.

In my early twenties I was very interested in getting a TR7 drop top and sticking a big V8 in it. I even went over to S&S preparations and had a go in their demonstrator. It was very quick, sounded great and handled well too. The problem was, and still is, is that it still looks like a TR7 no matter how fast it goes, so I binned the idea and so should you. Eventually I got myself a good looking, powerful V8 drop top that sounds awesome, handles well and here I am. Don't do it Matt, you will always look like a plonker in one of those old bangers and your 'reputation', as shaky as it is, will never recover! ;)

You'll need thicker skin than that if you are going to be seen driving a TR7! ;)

I suspect given the size and weight you could probably get it to out handle most cars on here. I say go for it, they look cool and come from a company with decent lineage. Its not like they cost a fortune and with any luck you will probably be able to pass it on for the same money if you decide its not for you.

A friend of mine sprints a little frogeye which is great fun to be in. OK not as quick and powerful as some cars although it is modified and running a modern ford lump with sequential gearbox. It seems to be pretty close in performance to his elise which is also built for sprinting.

I guess there must be a club or forum for these so you could ask there for those with experience? I know you wanted advice from someone who had owned one, and I haven’t, but here’s a word from someone who sold quite a few: Kjell Qvale, a leading importer of British cars to the USA and rescuer of Jensen (for a while) died last year. In his obituary were some quotes about cars he had sold or had a hand in, including this one of the Triumph TR7: "It was a disaster - it was a disaster because it was a terrible car."

Do it Matt! I sat in one at theEarls Court Motor Show the year they were launched, I was in love... That faded over the years, but I can see why you want to scratch the itch.
I later owned an Allegro, my first car, it did a job, but gutless and collapsing suspension are memories I have ;-) olive green it was, lovely...

Cheers Mike. What do you recon, fixed head or drop top???

I think the drop top is the more modern, better looker but the fixed head has a more 70's classic feel to it, plus its stiffer too.

If you're going for more power definitely go for a fixed head. It's also the proper wedge shape as first designed.

MAF, the drop top was actually the original concept but due to this car being aimed at the USA and rumours of convertible cars being banned, they produced the fixed head. That's why the drop top followed later when the issue was cleared up.

...as you can see I have been reading up!

I would have the one with the 4.6 V8!
Certainly the convertible is more modern, but I think I would have the coupe looking at them here in the flesh!
