That said apparently there's a slight design flaw in the assembly in general as to remove the upper arms you have to lower the sub frame to actually get at the relevant bolt as its too close to chassis to get at it with any tools , my mechanic was pretty baffled by that one!

Reads fine to me mark, nice work. Thanks for all your commitment to keep this going "professionally" and not let it deteriorate into a moaning fest:excellent:

Excellent Mark, If I'd add anything perhaps a trawl back through this thread to list actual numbers on here of cars checked and cracks found and locations (amongst the eight wishbones there seems to be a consistent spread emerging).

Great work...

I just dont believe that there are only 5 cases -perhaps 5 arms have been returned, 2 of which were mine as well as yours. When the old table was running it was already up to six confirmed notifications and there have ben numerous others since then with owners stating that they have informed VOSA. In my case I have 2 seperate notifications one for front and one for rear

Just to reiterate what Simon1 has said already. My new rear arm is of the new, much more substantial design and fitted perfectly. I was chatting to Newton about the redesigned arm trying to explain the difference, but photos shown earlier demonstrate it much more clearly.

FYI. Still heard nothing else back from DVSA.

Quote in the letter Mark our names and the handling person from dVSA. Eg

Phil C - 3200 - lower near side wishbone - John Corcoran...

Can i sujest a sticky thread to make finding the information on who to contact a little easier if you have broken bones?
I think having to trawl through this thread may put some people off

Possibly call it...
'attention all 32-4200 owners, broken wishbones - what to do'

Then a template letter, and contacts too send it too?

Chaps,

Don't think I'll have time to go through all 162 pages to see who has had a failure AND who has sent a form to the DVLA. However this can be done in slow time over the next couple of weeks. However Karate's idea is a good one, I think some kind of sticky where you can put your details if effected will make it much easier to track this.

Wife has suggested I send the reply letter to the two original recipients as well as Mr Carter.. seeing as they were they were the original recipients, not Mr Carter.

I had some time spare so I have updated the table to show the cracks or failures found since the 18th March and to add information on the rear wishbones. If I have missed anyone off the list who has had an inspection which has shown a faulty wishbone, or anyone notices any other error then please pm me or reply via this tread and I will update the table.

Hope the table comes out OK when attached.

Hi - table correct for my offside front lower and offside rear upper but the note in right hand column incorrect - I have not had any failure on near side wishbone - might be someone else but not me. Steve

Small correction and additional info for mine too. Mileage when discovered was 64235 and the crack was found by me.

Hi Rex - turned out a month or so back my other front lower was cracked too so changed it as well. 4200 on about 110k now! (Yes very big miles, but still shouldn't be happening really)

Thanks
Si

Letter reads well but there are parts which sound patronising e.g. what is the point of DVSA etc. We are clearly passionate about the safety of fellow members and want to ensure that this is resolved but bear in mind the person reading your letter will probably not share that same passion. If anything is to be done then unfortunately we need to get these people on side. Pissing them off is not going to get us where we want to be.

Additionally whilst i agree that we have a wealth of engineering experience here in the UK that could provide a report on the wishbones, perhaps the protocol is for the manufacture to look first and provide a recommendation which is then subsequently assessed by the DVSA?

Also writing 'We don't expect our concerns to cause any kind of change in process' doesn't sit well with me. We shouldnt be assumptive and make their life easier. If they eventually arrive at that conclusion then so be it. But until then we should push for an potential resolution.

Thoughts? I am busy at the moment but happy to go through it in more detail if you think it is worthwhile.
