Washing advice?

Supernatural hybrid (as a wax and sealant blended) lasts a lot longer than a wax, tbh I've not gotten to the point where it's stopped beading before re-doing the car! I have read write ups of 6 months+, if you believe them.

Liking the sound of the Supernatural gunk... I feel another gratuitous purchase coming on..

Note there is both supernatural (a very high quality pure wax) AND supernatural hybrid (50% sealant and 50% wax). The hybrid is the best of both worlds making it suitable for all colours and paint types. It's also has the bonus of being far cheaper than the 100% wax product. It's supposed to be very hard wearing.

Google them both and read the reviews. If you cannot decide which to buy try a couple of panel pots first.

Do any shops actually sell this stuff - as in places I an go and fondle and sniff before I buy? Online inquiries lead me to any number of online retailers but can't see any local branches of Honest Ron's Motor Factors actually carrying these lines.

I've tried as I would have liked to look before I bought; it seems most are online. I used eBay and amazon to buy dodo juice, or you can buy direct.

Maybe there is a gap in the market for people like us who want (better) cleaning products

Well. As some of you crew seem to like photos of hard manual labour - or its results - after approx. 5 hours' graft I think I've got it looking pretty good. Nowhere near the mirror finishes that you hard detailistas manage to conjure but until I can get my hands on some Supernatural ***** Juice and Juju Oil and what have you, this will have to do.... I'm pretty pleased with the results, and I guess that's what matters most!

First up I spent over 2 hrs on the interior. Have edited out pics of the kids crawling into the narrow spaces to avoid the attentions of the police, but I can see why child labour got the Victorians onto the world map. With a used car there's a sense of making it your own, expunging the traces of the previous users and making it spotless, before spraying the door seals with your own civet. Anyway, vacuum, upholstery cleaner, a variety of leather products and wipes and whatnot...

Smells pretty good, too, after jettisoning the air 'freshener' the previous owner had in there, which reminded me of Toilet Duck.

Then the exterior, breaking all taboos under the baking sun, but a working man has to seize his chances when he can. Local mini-Halfords has a reasonable selection of kit but (almost) none of the recommended uber-cleaning agents, so in the end I plumped for entry level Autoglym Aqua Wax and a shed load of elbow grease, after Meguiars Gold shampoo. Many more Meg products but one minor irritation was the way its impossible to see how they are used without tearing open the label, something the Halfords staff seem to have control issues with... So. This is a stopgap till Detailing Day, the revelation of the mysteries of clay bars and what have you, and Holy Dodo Juice is at hand.

Very nice indeed! Looks like a good job well done. You should be proud of your(kids)self.

I rate maguires gold wash - lots of suds and rinses nicely and beads straight off. Makes washing somwwhat easier.

Like a black mirror...

Looks like a fabulous return on your invested time. Living in a somewhat rural community means that finish would last about 150 yards on my car.
I'm deeply envious :)

Looks great, jerkmoans. Time well spent.

You have all put me to shame with this thread. So much so that this weekend I bought a pressure washer and a microfibire drying towel. I panicked when I saw the vast array of polishy waxy shiny gunky stuff in Halfords and left quickly, resolving to do more research before going back. I do feel that a clay bar would be a good thing, perhaps some snow foam. But probably that kind of stuff is best left to when the sun is less fierce. And when I'm less scared of using a clay bar.

AdamN - I share your clay bar phobia. I know the car needs a deep clean on the outside (inside is perfectly immaculate), but do I go all out on the claybar route, or stick with Maguires (I concur that it is v. good stuff) and a bit of spit & polish!?!

Oh, and less sunny weather is most definitely required.

Jerkmoans - did you set your kids to work on the alloys with a toothbrush!? They are amazing clean, they now look new.

Good thinking... sounds like you and I have bought ourselves some time, BigR!

Perhaps they could come round and do my childrens' teeth..?

Think they'd been refurbed before I bought it so they were pretty clean, but I have a motivational poster above the binlids' beds: 'The floggings will continue until morale improves'.

Instilling a decent work ethic. That and large ice cream bribes.

Excellent!!

It also looks from the photos that the paint may have been machine polished before your purchase as I cannot see any swirl marks, but then sometimes you need to look a bit closer.
