Washing advice?

Excellent!!

It also looks from the photos that the paint may have been machine polished before your purchase as I cannot see any swirl marks, but then sometimes you need to look a bit closer.

Plenty of swirl marks on close inspection. This is the problem, destined to drive the obsessive amongst us certifiably nuts: the cleaner you get it, the more you see to clean...

Very nice indeed! Looks like a good job well done. You should be proud of your(kids)self.

I rate maguires gold wash - lots of suds and rinses nicely and beads straight off. Makes washing somwwhat easier.

Thank you. Dunno about the beading straight off: was so hot yesterday it had steam coming off it!

Thanks to all for your kind words. Unless something majorly unpleasant happens to it, that's me done till Detailing Day when I can ar$e about with Googoo juice and clay bars and all the rest of it like I'm on Blue Peter or something.

Or the Generation Game. Watch an expert do something difficult and then try it yourself, with amusing results.

That's precisely why I'm not keen on 'having a go' with clay bar myself, without a spot of observing an expert first. I hate tears. Mine in particular...

Agreed. Sounds terrifying and dangerous. I shall remain un-clayed for the rest of this summer but am inclined to invest in some Maguiars Gold and some Doodoo juice supernatural hybrid. And some of that magic instant detail squirty stuff, too.

What's the forum's favourite wheel protection? There was a thread on this recently and I can't find it for the life of me. The "wash guide" thread suggests Rimwax or Swissvax Autobahn but ideally there'll be something for sale in Halfords or some other friendly local shop. Any suggestions?

Also... any thoughts on when's a good time to get wheels refurbed? The lacquer is shot to bits on one of my fronts and I'm not sure if leaving it that way for a few months will cause any further damage. With a couple of the others slightly kerbed I'm half-tempted to get the lot done. Or wait. Any wisdom..?

Swissvax Autobahn is just awesome...

from Halfords nothing really, a little work-around is why not use your bodywax or sealant, it won't last as long but will still provide some protection - would suggest to layer the wax on the wheels until you get around to ordering online - on the wheels you will need to leave the wax to cure as you don't want to get the surface hot

regards wheel refurb, I would get the damage one done - if just on the rim then maybe a little sanding, touch-up spray and few layers of lacquer as a temp job - did this on one of mine until I'm ready to get them all done

claying is OK, heat it up 1st in warm water, flatten the clay so that the surface is smooth (no cracks for dirt to collect). work on a small section at a time and use straightlines keeping the surface well lurbicated. keep kneading the clay and making sure the surface of the clay is smooth and clean before moving on.

you also want a clean microfibre to wipe the panel clean before moving on as you do not want this to dry (no pressure on the cloth)

a good save clay you can get from Halfords is Meguiars clay kit

Thanks Enzo. sounds like good advice. How far does Swissvax go? I see that it's £39.99 for 50ml via ebay; is that enough to do all four wheels?

Well guy one of the guys who works for us Motormania Colchester 01206 799174 and Motormania Witham 01376 501515 (utterly shameless plug!!) is fanatical about Meguiars products, I think he has bought every one going and he knows more about the products than the rep. If you ever want any advice phone the Colchester store and ask for Neil, he will talk for hours about the products given the chance! He is going to detail my new 4200 next week and he will do a fantastic job of it I'm sure. Quoted me one day for outside and one day for inside!

Thanks Phil. Is that the one on Magdalen Street? May have to drop in and see what other cleaning goodies await!

(Don't do Swissvax, Dodo juice or Greased Lightning Showroom Shine by any chance, do you..?)

This forum's getting expensive: a bottle of Maguiars gold, a squirty bottle of detaily stuff, a pot of Autoglym HD and a microfibre wash-mit. Shame I don't have time to use them. Still, I'm sure the car would look great if I did.

Hi Andy....!

That said, I'm really keen on learning/having a machine polish done. Or is the view that for the price of all of the kit, you might as well just pay for a detail?
